Responsibilities
The R&D Pack Team is responsible for the high-voltage battery pack design of the next generation. The staff systems engineer is responsible for leading the systems requirements and working with electrical engineering as well as working with other teams such as the Mechanical, Thermal, and Validation teams. The HV battery systems must have good people skills and communication skills to work with other team managers as well as talk to the customers. The staff systems engineer will be writing the system requirements for the battery pack and test and validation review as well as EOL (End of Line) test requirements.
- Work with mechanical/electrical/thermal teams and suppliers to improve the design and reduce cost.
- Work with the BMS team to support HV battery functional safety requirements (ISO26262)
- Review designs including BMS software, functional safety, electrical schematics, electrical component selection, etc.
- Develop and review battery end-of-line test requirements.
- Review high-voltage battery electrical components to make sure the battery meets safety and functional requirements.
- Pack DFMEA and component-level DFMEA
- Communicate with OEM customers to improve the design and function of the battery.
- Ensure developed batteries meet all global standards and requirements.
- Communicate with engineers to update/modify documentation to maintain accurate representation of deliverables; Use tracking tools such as Confluence and JIRA to capture changes.
- Analyze the technical, logistical, and schedule risks associated with various solutions.
- Holistic understanding of thermal and electrical interdependence in battery pack design
Qualifications
- Systems or Electrical Engineering degree
- 5+ years of high-voltage battery design experience and the automotive industries
- Working knowledge of ISO26262
- Experience working with customers and presenting viable solutions to support their needs.
- Experience in managing a team, including growing team members, planning their work, and keeping roles and responsibilities clear.
- Works well cross-functionally with other teams, Mechanical, Thermal, BMS, Warranty, etc.
- Extensive knowledge of battery behavior
- Previous experience in automotive product development environments
- Versed with automated requirements management tools (i.e. JAMA, Doors, etc.)
- Previous experience with product launches and production schedules

For this position, the reasonably expected pay range is between $ 70,000 and $90,000. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
