Background

 

We're looking for a Cloud Data Developer with excellent skills in Data technologies to join us here at AXA Health, to build and maintain a cloud data infrastructure that is central to the ambitions of AXA Health to become a data driven organisation.


We need you to be a technical DevOps enthusiast with a “you build it, you run it” mindset. As a Cloud Data Engineer, you will work on the ingesting, storing and processing huge sets of data. The primary focus will be on choosing optimal solutions to use for these purposes, then maintaining, implementing, and monitoring them. You will also be responsible for integrating them with the architecture used across the company.

 

We use Azure but are open to experience in other Cloud programmes.

 

The role

  • You will provide hands-on technical expertise to technology and project teams upholding best practice architecture, design, development and deployment principles.
  • Selecting and integrating data tools, and frameworks, required to provide meaningful value to our business.
  • Implementing on-premise to cloud, as well as cloud native ETL processes.
  • Monitoring the performance of an industry level data platform, and advising of any cloud resource PaaS/IaaS changes.
  • You will help lead the detailed design and development of data platforms, and integrations with existing and new applications.
  • Developing and adhering to complex data policies, including retention and governance.
  • Support implementation and warranty activities and produce support documentation, to ensure successful handover of project changes into BAU.
  • Act as coach and mentor for junior members of our data engineering teams, actively supporting their development as technicians
  • Keep knowledge up to date by carrying out industry research, attending relevant industry seminars and individual study.
  • Prepare and deliver sprint demos to both peers and more senior colleagues/stakeholders.
  • Proactively assist with development of initiatives to promote continuous improvement, both within specific technology areas and our wider digital organisation.

 

Skills, knowledge and behaviour

  • Must have strong Cloud experience.
  • Significant IT development experience across a number of various technologies and disciplines with a proven expertise in at least one area.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant data platform technologies and infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of development lifecycles and Agile processes.
  • Able to translate business requirements into detailed technical design.
  • Ability to generate and evaluate work estimates.
  • Understanding of distributed computing principles.
  • Proficiency with Spark/Hadoop clustered computing ideally in Azure Databricks.
  • Knowledge of Big Data querying tools, such as Pig, Hive, Python, or R.
  • Experience with integration of data from multiple data sources. ADF
  • Experience with NoSQL databases, such as HBase, Cassandra, MongoDB, Cosmos.
  • Knowledge of various ETL techniques and frameworks, such as Azure Data Factory / Flume / Apache airflow.
  • Experience with various messaging systems, such as Azure Event Hub, Kafka or RabbitMQ.
  • Must be comfortable working remotely.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt is essential in an ever evolving data landscape.
  • Strong communication skills are a must.  You will be working alongside a number of teams, and will be expected to give clear, concise information in a timely manner.
