When you first think about Deliveroo, you probably think of getting great food to your house in less than half an hour. Awesome right? But behind the scenes is the real story. This story is one of high growth, huge challenges and an enormous opportunity ahead of us.
We want to be the definitive food company - the app you go to any time you have a hunger pang. We are transforming the way people think about food. We’re a technology driven company at the forefront of the most rapidly expanding industry in the world, so come and join us for the ride.
At Deliveroo we have a mature and growing User Research team, whose outputs are highly valued throughout the business. As we continue to scale, the questions we’re being asked are becoming more complex, meaning our approach needs to become more sophisticated while our toolkit remains fit for purpose.
We are currently looking for highly experienced individual contributors who are established subject matter experts but whose passions lie in fully mastering their discipline and helping build a world-class community of practice within their team.
You won’t be formally responsible for anyone’s performance management but you will be working closely with the Discipline Lead to level up skills, knowledge and capabilities across your teammates.
On a day-to-day basis, you will:
Be responsible for the planning, delivery and analysis of research projects that support and inform your product team's roadmap
Shape strategy and vision for your product area together with product managers and stakeholders across the wider business
Work closely with the head of the team to make the discipline of user research at Deliveroo world-class – including improving our hiring process, expanding our community presence, interviewing potential new team members, and much more
You'll contribute new techniques, methods and ways of working, and actively mentor less experienced members of the team to build capability
The products we work on are as diverse as the users we serve, which makes us unusual in being able to offer the variety of an agency or contractor role but with all the benefits of an in-house position. As a Principal User Researcher you’ll be exposed to a number of very different areas, such as:
Exploring how we can work better for our Restaurants
Understanding how we can make our apps better for Riders
Gathering insight on how Customers think about ordering food
Spending time with our Employees so we can make better tools for them
Collaborating with colleagues in Consumer Insight and Data Science to build a robust knowledge base about our customers across functions
We value intellectual humility, an eagerness to learn and teach, and the ability to move quickly when needed. But above all else, we're looking for unique personalities with varied backgrounds that add something new to our team.
This role is for you if you:
Have extensive experience working in User Research, including time spent working in fast-paced product teams within high-growth tech companies
Have a profile within the research community and a body of work that makes you a recognised subject matter expert
Are comfortable not just working on but coaching others through projects across the generative, formative and evaluative spectrum, with varying levels of scope and ambiguity
Have a world-class toolkit of both qual and quant methodologies that you are constantly updating and refining
Are passionate about quality, rigour and standards - both defining and upholding them
Can act as an ambassador for user research at Deliveroo, both within the business and also externally
Are motivated by nurturing talent and succeeding through the success of others
Life at Deliveroo
We are a growing team, with very large impact, seeking to answer some of the most interesting questions out there. We move fast, we’re always looking for new ideas and we’re very transparent about the decisions we make and why we make them.
There are so many questions we need to answer and plenty more we haven’t even encountered. How do data and technology help restaurants to grow as consumer habits change? How can we predict what someone wants to order for dinner long before the idea has even crossed their mind? At Deliveroo these are just some of the tough problems we are solving - and there is no challenge that cannot be yours. No solution is owned by a particular team, which means the scope for growth and personal impact is enormous.
Benefits and Diversity
At Deliveroo we know that people are the heart of the business and we prioritise their welfare. We offer a wide range of competitive benefits in areas including health, family, finance, community, convenience, growth, time away and relocation.
In 2018 we announced our decision to give every employee equity in the company. We did this because we wanted all of our employees, regardless of location, level or role to be owners and because we believe that this is the right thing to do. We believe this helps build a culture where everyone is committed and able to share in the company’s success.
We believe a great workplace is one that represents the world we live in and how beautifully diverse it can be. That means we have no judgement when it comes to any one of the things that make you who you are - your gender, race, sexuality, religion or a secret aversion to coriander. All you need is a passion for (most) food and a desire to be part of one of the fastest growing start-ups around.
