About the team

At Deliveroo we're striving to build the industry's best engineering organisation.

Our teams are solving unique and difficult problems at scale. We're growing quickly and we need experienced technical managers to help us scale.

We’re looking for an Engineering Director who can lead and continue to build the Infrastructure organisation that is responsible for the efficient, resilient and scalable operations of compute and database fleet, edge networks, event streaming, observability and release platforms. You will lead several critical engineering-wide processes and initiatives including: service readiness, incident management, disaster recovery, and code resilience. Lastly, you will provide program mentoring as well as coach managers and ICs operating across all our platforms and product areas. This role will report into our VP of Infrastructure and will be a hybrid working role in either Hyderabad or Bangalore.

You will

  • Manage a team of Senior Engineering Managers and Engineering Managers across our Platform team.

  • Deliver performance against a set of key performance indicators (KPIs) for the Infrastructure group to reflect the health and performance of each function.  

  • Be the leader for operational health and incident response at Deliveroo, owning and delivering impact against Engineering Operational Excellence initiatives. 

  • Define and execute against a clear vision and 3 year roadmap for core areas of ownership including observability, datastores, compute, production releasing and event streaming and disaster recovery. 

  • Provide ongoing executive-level reviews of our disaster recovery and incident capability relative to an industry maturity model. 

  • Grow an effective, self-organising group of managers, while scaling a tech organisation at a fast pace.

  • Maintain and scale our systems through headcount and forecast planning, delivering results at or below budget plans. 

  • Maintain a positive learning environment and act as a mentor for engineers and up-and-coming leaders.

  • Collaborate with other senior stakeholders across the engineering organisation.

  • Be the co-site lead for our growing India operations.

Requirements

  • Operational engineering leadership experience, preferably at a director level

  • 7+ years of total people management experience, 5+ years leading managers.

  • Experience in operating infrastructure platforms as a service, production releases, efficiently operating and scaling cloud infrastructure, and incident management.

  • Deep knowledge of distributed system design and operation.

  • Experience collaborating and problem solving with senior technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Desire to be hands-on while being a senior leader of the tech org.

  • Experience mentoring and building a motivated and effective team.

  • Experience setting goals and objectives to ensure your team is set up for success.

  • Passion for collaboration, problem solving, and execution.
