Job Description:

Do you want to help drive government affairs and public policy work for a modern technology company across Europe, the Middle East and Africa? We are looking for a Government Affairs Senior Director with the right mindset and skills.

As part of the team, you will drive our public policy work and develop the strategic relationships and alliances with governments, international and regional organizations, and senior leaders across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Together with colleagues you will help countries, organizations and critical infrastructure operators mitigate cybersecurity risks, following local and international data privacy and regulatory requirements. You will create new partnerships and help them build their digital sovereignty initiatives and strategic autonomy aspirations. You will bring with you relationships across Europe and the EU, NATO and the UK and will play a leadership role in the development of Zscaler's government affairs engagement in Africa.

You will be part of the Government Partnership team and you will report to the VP / Head of EMEA Government Partnerships. The Government Partnership team represents Zscaler vis-à-vis governments, political representatives, international organizations, think tanks, academia, media and other relevant stakeholders.

This position is remote and could be based in any EU capital, with a preference for Brussels or London. Your work will require frequent travel.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic engagement You will develop and guide Zscaler's policy agenda and/or advocacy strategies and campaigns for top priorities. You will play a leadership role in the development of Zscaler's government relations strategy for Africa, and its implementation.
  • You will take lead responsibility for legislative and political dossiers and related projects and campaigns. You will lead cooperation between Government Affairs and compliance and product teams
  • You will lead in the development of strategies on key issues and recommend well thought-out actions by prioritizing, ensuring alignment with stakeholder positions or leveraging specialists and like-minded partners.
  • Representing Zscaler You will represent Zscaler at senior level externally in conferences, panel discussions and similar formats and vis-a-vis media, think tanks and academia.
  • You will represent Zscaler in trade association and international organizations' working groups.
  • You will develop and implement strategic communication in partnership with the Communications team for Zscaler by implementing strategies that are tailor made for a variety of diverse stakeholders to enhance our reputation and communicate corporate positions and goals.
  • External Relationships You will lead strategies for leveraging relationships with external partners and key influencers. You will create cross-cutting linkages on policy issues through engagements with think tanks, academia, trade associations and other like-minded partners.
  • You will bring an ongoing network with governmental and non-governmental stakeholders in EMEA to align interests to grow Zscaler's goals;
  • You will grow the awareness of Zscaler and its key technology through brand positioning.
  • You will establish partnerships with industry and NGO specialists that can advocate and promote Zscaler's policy, political, and priorities.
  • You will bring relationships with key influencers to gather and apply findings through a network of key senior executives and external stakeholders regarding strategic issues affecting our long-term goals or future issues.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree in political science, economics, law or similar relevant field.
  • 15 years' professional experience in national government or in international institutions, trade associations or from a government or corporate affairs function. Preference for experience of working in or with the European Union in the past. Experience of policy work in one or more African country and/or with institutions such as the African Union.
  • Bring an already developed network of influential contacts across government, international institutions, academia, think tanks and NGOs which can serve as a base for engagement by Zscaler in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
  • Experience in dealing with technology and digital issues including regarding regulatory and policy matters through interaction with policy makers, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience with decision-making processes in the European Union and NATO and of how companies can responsibly and ethically participate in such processes.
  • Develop and implement political and communications strategies and campaigns.
  • A team player with collaborative capabilities
  • Fluent English proficiency.
  • Comfortable with public speaking at conferences, hearings, with media and in other external facing roles, at a senior level.
  • Experience working with and using trade and industry associations in developing and influencing policy and regulatory goals.
