We're looking for an experienced Sr. Principal Software Development Engineer to join our Data team. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, you will:
- Provide technical leadership and vision for the design and development of our multi-tenant cloud-based data platform, influencing architecture decisions and driving innovation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement a scalable, high-performance, and secure data architecture that meets current and future business needs. As well as collaborate with product management to align technical strategies with business goals and contribute to the product roadmap.
- Mentor and coach engineering teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Drive initiatives to improve system reliability, availability, and performance; applying best practices in areas such as fault tolerance, monitoring, and automation.
- Actively participate in architecture reviews; providing insights, recommendations, and ensuring adherence to established design principles.
What We're Looking for (Minimum Qualifications)
- 12+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on cloud-based data platforms.
- Proven track record as a technical leader in designing and implementing cloud-based data platforms, with a deep understanding of distributed systems and data architecture.
- Extensive experience with one of the cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) or Data framework providers (e.g. Snowflake, Databricks) and proficiency in designing scalable, fault-tolerant, and secure data solutions.
- Strong background in software engineering and system design, with proficiency in multiple programming languages.
What Will Make You Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven subject matter expertise in one of the cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) data solutions or data platforms like Snowflake or Databricks.
- Manage cloud provider and other commercial software stack vendors leveraged in tech stack for solution design, support and functionality needed specifically for Zscaler.
This role is based in our San Jose, CA office (3 days a week in office).

The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations and could be higher or lower based on a multitude of factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
The base salary range listed for this full-time position excludes commission/ bonus/ equity (if applicable) + benefits.
