Job Description:

Do you want to help build government affairs and public policy work for a cutting-edge technology company across Europe, the Middle East and Africa? We're looking for a Government Affairs Manager to join the EMEA Government Partnerships Team.

As part of the team, you will handle the public policy work and the strategic relationships and alliances with governments, international and regional organizations, and senior leaders across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Together with colleagues you will help countries, organizations and critical infrastructure operators mitigate cybersecurity risks, following local and international data privacy and regulatory requirements. You will help partners with their digital sovereignty initiatives and strategic autonomy aspirations. 

You will be part of the Government Partnership team and you will report to the VP and Head of EMEA Government Partnerships. The Government Partnership team represents Zscaler vis-à-vis governments, political representatives, international organizations, think tanks, academia, media and other relevant stakeholders. 

This position is remote and can be based in any major European capital. Your work will require frequent travel.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic engagement 
    • You will contribute to, and develop, Zscaler's policy agenda and/or advocacy strategies and campaigns for top priorities. 
    • You will take ownership of legislative and political dossiers and related projects and campaigns. You will facilitate the cooperation between Government Affairs and compliance and product teams 
    • You will respond to important strategic issues and recommend well thought-out actions by prioritizing, ensuring alignment with stakeholder positions, leveraging specialists, or escalating matters.
    Represent Zscaler 
    • You will represent Zscaler externally on conferences, panel discussions and similar formats and vis-a-vis media, think tanks and academia.   
    • You will represent Zscaler in trade association and international organizations’ working groups.  
    • You will develop and work on strategic communication in partnership with the Communications team for Zscaler by implementing strategies that are tailor made for a variety of diverse stakeholders to enhance our reputation and communicate corporate positions and goals. 
    • You will manage stratcom efforts and media outreach, including through writing op-eds, blogs, columns and press releases on top priority policy matters
    External Relationships 
    • You will develop and implement strategies for leveraging relationships with external partners and important influencers. 
    • You will develop an ongoing network with governmental and non-governmental stakeholders in EMEA to align interests to grow Zscaler's goals;  
    • You will help grow the awareness of Zscaler and its key technology through brand positioning.
    • You will establish partnerships with industry and NGO thought leaders that can advocate and advance Zscaler's policy, political, and business priorities.  
    • You will maintain relationships with key influencers to gather and apply findings through a network of key senior executives and external stakeholders regarding strategic or affecting our long-term goals or future issues.
    • You will prepare briefings, presentations and strategic documents for high-level meetings with stakeholders and policy makers.
    • You will provide input and comments for legislative, regulatory and policy processes.
     Internal Collaboration 
    • You will be a subject matter expert for large, critical projects, and directs teammates and cross-functional project teams, or act as a project lead across country and team lines. 
    • You will collaborate with, and influences, teams across the company to inform on government and regulatory requirements, the possible effects of political discussions and concerns / opportunities. You will help guide business and product strategies, and identifies partnerships to create opportunities for the business both short and long term.
    • You will provide expertise and/or advocates for the latest initiatives and solutions that influence the advancement of our long-term goals and priorities. You will provide expertise for identifying and unblocking potential regulatory issues that prevent access to market opportunities. You will partner with the Public Sector and other key business/client leads. 
    • You will collaborate with Zscaler´s compliance team on matters at the intersection of policy and regulation.  
    • You will be a strategic partner to business leads by supporting sales and market opportunities, building Zscaler's reputation as a globally trusted provider of security and data protection technology. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or comparable degree in political science, economics or law. 
  • Relevant professional experience in national government or an international institutions, trade associations or in a government or corporate affairs function.  
  • 3+ years of experience dealing with technology and digital issues including regarding regulatory and policy matters through interaction with policy makers, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders. 
  • Develop and implement political and communications strategies and campaigns.  
  • A team player with collaborative capabilities
  • Fluent English proficiency. 
  • Communicative skills including being comfortable at public speaking at conferences, hearings, with media and in other external facing roles.  
  • Experience working with and using trade and industry associations in developing and influencing policy and regulatory objectives. 
  • An understanding of, and preferably experience in, dealing with the European Union and its political and legislative agenda.
