The Principal Software Engineer role involves developing an overall architecture and finding ways to improve scalability and reliability of the SSE, and Zero Trust Security Services. You will work with teams in proposing and building ways to improve security services to a more modern Micro-services-based architecture to horizontally scale. You will be the technical advisor to the engineering executive leadership across the Zscaler organizations.
We're looking for an experienced Principal Software Engineer to join our Zero Trust Network Segmentation team. Reporting to the Sr. Director, Software Engineering, you'll be responsible for:
- Build scalable and reliable security services in ZScaler and Public cloud environments, and improve and re-architect existing products or services to meet the ever growing scalability needs of the customers.
- Collaborate with internal ZScaler teams to guide and direct engineers on how to improve ideas from ground zero to reality using the best software development principles and collaborate with Product Managers to fulfill product roadmap and with Technology partners to bring solutions to market
- Build Distributed Database systems and solutions that are secure
- Research into ways to build security services in Zscaler or public cloud environments
- Be the technical advisor to the ZScaler executive leadership team on evaluating and building new product ideas and build technical solutions involving third-party products, open source and partners
What We're Looking for (Minimum Qualifications)
- 12+ years software engineering experience
- Experience building networking and security services using Microservice architectures, along with hands-on Networking programming experience with VPN-like technologies and Knowledge of user Federation and Distributed Database systems
- Knowledge of L2/L3 networking protocols and services - HTTP, TCP/IP, SSL/TLS, SAML, and Identity Federation.
- Experience with Web Proxy, Networking, and Firewall products.
- Bachelors/Masters in Computer Science or related fields is required.
What Will Make You Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience with complexities of a secure and hardened cross-platform software development.

The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations and could be higher or lower based on a multitude of factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
The base salary range listed for this full-time position excludes commission/ bonus/ equity (if applicable) + benefits.
