The VP of Corporate Development and Strategy will play a critical role in shaping and driving the long-term growth of Smartsheet. You will report to the Chief Strategy and Product Officer and work closely with the Smartsheet Sr. Leadership team to define the market opportunity, develop medium and long-term business strategies, identify, evaluate, and recommend potential M&A opportunities, and support the execution of our growth strategies.

This role is located in our Bellevue, WA headquarters and will report to the Chief Strategy and Product Officer.

You will:

  • Lead the development of Smartsheet's long-term growth strategy and multi-year business plan. Work closely with the Smartsheet Sr. Leadership team and key function leaders to develop robust long-term strategic growth roadmaps that consider organic (e.g., product, innovation & technology) and inorganic growth opportunities (M&A, JVs, venture capital) in both existing and adjacent markets
  • Conduct strategic analyses of existing and adjacent markets to help identify and evaluate potential product, innovation, investment and/or acquisitions opportunities. Critically review and assess market structure, customer workflow and needs as well as trends & drivers influencing market size, growth, profitability, comparative advantage and risk
  • Establish and operationalize Smartsheet's M&A process to include sourcing and pipeline development, stewardship of internal and BOD decision making processes including valuation, leadership of target engagement and deal process, and management of transactions from inception through close and integration
  • Collaborate across functions to support the annual business planning process and ensure that long-term strategies are woven into actionable annual plans
  • Ensure that pricing and packaging strategies and plans are aligned with and support our overall business strategy
  • Manage direct reports including Director of Strategy, Director of Pricing and Packaging, and Sr. Director of Corporate Development

You have:

  • 10+ years of experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, corporate development, investment banking, and/or equivalent experience (e.g., scaling a business, driving change across a company)
  • Experience in the technology sector, SaaS preferred
  • Demonstrated project management, leadership, and cross-group collaboration skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills through all levels of the organization

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Business Administration/related field
  • Desire to operate at the intersection of technology and business, spearheading organizational, operational, and technological change
  • Demonstrated ability to excel in an innovative, fast-paced environment, with rapid exploration and ability to execute
  • Demonstrated hypothesis-driven, problem-solving orientation with ability to leverage both quantitative and qualitative analyses to drive decision making
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to formulate and deliver insights around complex business problems in a thoughtful and persuasive manner
  • Exceptionally strong personal initiative, good business instincts, and comfort with ambiguity
  • Deep understanding of software and business technology markets, trends, and dynamics
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous high-priority projects (often including project management of cross-functional teams)
  • Experience leading global businesses or working in non-US markets
