Smartsheet is looking for an experienced self-starter candidate for our Principal Solutions Consultant role who will be responsible for leading the establishment and expansion of our Professional Services practise within the Japanese market. This individual will be tasked with driving the scoping and delivery of Smartsheet Professional Services engagements from pre-sale through to go-live as well as help refine the services go-to-market strategy and offerings specific to the region. This position requires a unique blend of client relationship management skills, technical expertise, regional expertise and sales acumen to deliver quality outcomes for our customers.

 

The Smartsheet Professional Services team has a unique mix of consulting and technology skills, where the team leverages leading methods to deliver high-quality engagements. The Principal Solutions Consultant possesses strong business acumen and the ability to understand our customer’s business goals and value drivers, while establishing the right solutions to drive critical business outcomes. You will be a key member of the account team, working alongside the Account Executives on creating and delivering solutions for our customers. In this role, you will effectively present and scope Professional Services offerings and capabilities to new and existing customers  and then deliver those engagements with a focus on scalability and optimizing end-user experience. You will be considered an expert on advanced products and solutions, working on various use cases across different industries and business groups. You have a positive, can-do attitude, you are also collaborative, creative and motivated to make an impact for customers. 

 

This role is Japan based and will report to the Sr Manager, Professional Services based out of Sydney, Australia. 

 

With a commitment to investing in the APJ region to better serve new and existing customers in Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the greater Asia Pacific geography, Smartsheet opened up its newest international office in Japan in 2022. You Will: 

  • Lead Professional Services engagements and training, understand customer challenges, develop and deliver solutions leveraging our defined Smartsheet project methodology
  • Be the Smartsheet subject matter expert (SME) on Smartsheet product and service capabilities
  • Lead the services pre-sales process with the sales team to understand the customer’s business and technical objectives, as well as, solution requirements, in order to build customer relationships, develop solution architecture, and construct the Scope of Work
  • Be the foundational member of the professional services team, entrusted with the growth and development of future team members as well as the delivery quality of engagements led by both partners and internal
  • Take a consultative approach in defining process efficiencies to ensure customers are realising the greatest possible value from Smartsheet
  • Manage the customer relationship(s) from initial pre-sales discussions to close of project and maintain customer relationships to help ensure project success and support the sale of additional services offerings
  • Expand upon the Smartsheet solution portfolio, demonstrating best practices in design for use cases across variety of industries and departments   
  • Support the regional Professional Services and local Japan leadership to grow the Japan business
  • Have a good understanding of the Channel ecosystem in Japan and willingness to work and partner with members to deliver projects
  • Develop and train channel resources to deliver quality engagements on our behalf
  • Provide feedback to our Product and Platform Engineering teams that inform additional product and service sales opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned



You Have: 

  • Minimum of 12+ years of professional experience; at least 6 years of experience in a customer facing technical role
  • Native level of Japanese and intermediate to business level of English (verbal and written) 
  • Excellent client management skills and the ability to work with customers in both pre-sales and post-sales environment
  • Demonstrated success in solutioning, selling, and delivering solutions for F1000 organisations
  • Excellent customer engagement, solution visioning, and problem solving skills
  • Hands-on experience in configuration, customisation, and implementation of SaaS applications
  • Passion for working with leading edge, web-based technologies and an interest to understand Smartsheet’s features, use cases, business and technical elements
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, presentation), with the ability to explain technical subjects to non-technical end-user personnel in large enterprises
  • High level of motivation, excellent follow-up with ability to deliver within defined timelines
  • Experience driving projects from concept through completion with minimal guidance
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of relevant work experience and education
  • Willing to travel periodically (up to 40-50%) based on customer and business need
  • Legally authorized to work in Japan for any employer on an ongoing basis
  • Based in Tokyo, Japan
