Your Impact
The Mesh and Opportunistic Networking Team at Axon is building hardware and software that enables First Responders to continue communicating when “off-grid”. Axon’s existing products and services assume LTE and/or WiFi connectivity to the cloud, and this is not continuously available during our customer’s most critical missions.
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to design and build one or more RF communications subsystems in the 400-2500 MHz range that will enable both low and high bandwidth communications links for scenarios from real-time video links from body cameras and drones to long-range delivery location and emergency notifications. These will be integrated into our Axon Body cameras, our SkyHero UAVs, our Axon Fleet vehicle computing systems, and other future applications.
What You’ll Do
Location: Boston, Seattle or SF Bay Area as alternate
Reports to: Distinguished Engineer
Direct Reports: N/A
- Participate in research and development of the communications subsystems for our next generation products, with a focus on custom PHY and MAC layers
- Participate in research work on new technologies and implement proof-of-concept prototypes
- Participate and drive critical decisions concerning technology choices (architecture, chipset selection ...)
- Design electronics systems, layout PCBs, test and verify prototypes and assist the firmware engineers in bringing up new boards
- Lead outsourced electronics development work; from project specification to deliverables validation
- Do pre-compliance tests on new designs and carry them through final EMC compliance testing at an external lab
What You Bring
- Master’s or B.S. degree in Electronic Engineering or equivalent through experience
- A passion for designing embedded systems and/or RF subsystems
- Excellent all-round electronics knowledge with 10+ years of real-world industry experience with advanced technologies and complex embedded electronics projects
- Proficient doing multi-layer PCB layout
- Awareness of EMC and signal integrity issues and best practices as they relate to PCB design
- Knowledge of at least one ECAD package, Altium Designer preferred
- Comfortable using test equipment such as DMM, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer
- Good hands-on skills, able to do simple rework jobs on prototype boards
- Programming languages: good C knowledge in an embedded context
- English proficiency required

- RED and FCC legislation
- Embedded Linux
- Electronics manufacturing

The Pay: Axon is a total compensation company, meaning compensation is made up of base pay, bonus, and stock awards. The starting base pay for this role is between USD 83,000 in the lowest geographic market and USD 159,000 in the highest geographic market. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: level, function, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, geographic market, and often a combination of all these factors.
