Your Impact
As a member of the Video Electrical Engineering team, you will engage in rigorous hands-on design, development, and testing of cutting-edge electronics that are integral to the complex camera systems and/or peripheral products that Axon provides. Your technical expertise, engineering curiosity, and proven own-it attitude will be critical to successful designs that meet the challenging requirements demanded by our customers. Not only will you apply your engineering creativity while owning your electronics designs, but you will collaborate with cross-discipline connections worldwide to deliver truly world-class products. What You’ll Do
- Research, propose, and develop subsystems and circuit solutions for body worn and/or vehicular products including wirelessly connected cameras, vehicular camera systems, sensors, and peripheral devices.
- Review and assess design requirements preliminary to circuit design.
- Engage with peers and Senior EE’s to realize robust electronics designs
- Using OrCAD Schematic tools, design embedded Mixed-Signal/Analog/Digital electronic circuits that may integrate application processors, high- and low-speed data interfaces (USBx, I2C, SPI), switch-mode and linear power supplies, batteries, audio subsystems, RF subsystems (Cellular, GNSS, Bluetooth), and much more.
- Team with PCB engineers to define, plan, implement, and inspect printed circuit board layout designs using Allegro or other layout tools
- Map out test plans and draft test methods for evaluating designs.
- Bring up, characterize, and debug systems and circuits using lab tools such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, power supplies, etc.
- Evaluate performance of circuits and assess compliance to product and regulatory requirements.
- Optimize performance of electronics design using simulation tools and hands-on measurements
- Assess and document design outcomes, test results, and related information and present information to design teams.
- Work with component and development partners to select, evaluate, and approve electronics or designs.
- Develop Bill of Materials and other design documentation needed for product release.
What Your Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar engineering discipline
- Minimum 3 years of portable, battery-powered embedded circuit design.
- Strong proficiency with basic discrete analog and digital circuit design (passive/active components, circuit analysis)
- Strong proficiency with reading and analyzing electronic component datasheets, schematics, and other engineering design documentation
- Demonstrated ownership of detailed electronics circuit design/integration in one or more of the following areas: Microcontroller and/or applications processor integration, memory subsystems, power supplies, RF subsystem integration, high speed communication buses, complex sensor systems, LEDs.
- Skilled with design and development of microcontroller based electronics designs
- Experienced with power supply design (Switch mode, linear regulator)
- Proficient with hands-on electronics bring-up, characterization, and debug using laboratory tools: Oscilloscope, power supplies, multimeters, etc
- Schematic design experience using standard industry schematic entry tools such as Cadence/OrCAD Capture.
- Experience collaborating with PCB engineers to realize PCB and Flexible PCB design. Experience with Allegro Viewer a plus
- Has developed products within cross-functional (EE/ME/FW) and globally diverse engineering teams
- Experienced with documentation, analysis, and presentations tools, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with motor/actuator selection, control techniques for motion and position sensing, and related circuit design and test to support motor/actuator implementation in automation or robotics applications (Stepper, Servo)
- Some experience integrating wireless systems such as Bluetooth
