System Engineer - Network Automation Team
Our office is based in Amsterdam, but remote work within the EU is available. We also offer relocation to the Netherlands.
The Product Engineering Department
Our engineering department consists of around 90 engineers, working in small scrum teams. Each team has end-to-end responsibility for a specific product or part of our architecture. Our teams are distributed geographically, and we work remote-first. Twice per year, each team meets up in person at our HQ in Amsterdam.

What is the role about?
In your role as System Engineer Network Automation you are responsible for applying your expertise to support the team with operations and feature development. You will have the chance to work on our platform which is responsible for automation on more than 40.000 bare metal servers in around 30 data center locations, around the world.
The team also consists of software engineers, and you will be working together with them, building products and features.
Key responsibilities:
- Good understanding of the hosting industry, data center infrastructure and Leaseweb network related products.
- Develop, maintain and support our data center automation products and drive feature development.
- 3rd line incident support
- Regular on-call duty (EOD – Engineer on duty).
- Working closely with other departments at Leaseweb (like Network Design, who are our close collaborators developing the systems we create automation for)
- Identify and propose solutions for improvements or structural problems.
- Responsibilities will vary from simple maintenance to complex tasks.
What we’re looking for:
- You have 5+ years of experience as a system enginee
- You have basic understanding of networking concepts, and network infrastructure components such as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
- You are proficient in Python and know your way around bash as well.
- You are familiar with tools like Chef for managing and maintaining configuration consistency across systems.
- Good understanding of databases like MySQL.
- Good understanding of RESTful APIs
- A solid ability to troubleshoot network-related issues and experience with network monitoring tools.
- Common Linux distributions knowledge (Ubuntu, and optionally Red Hat, Debian).
- Team player; ability to help your peers and open to your peers helping you.
- Driven to improve quality and prevent incidents.
- Fluent English communication skills
Nice to have:
- Knowledge of IP addresses and subnetting, DHCP, VLANs is an advantage.
- Knowledge of monitoring systems like Icinga
- Basic knowledge of (or curiosity for) ISP-related technologies, or experience in the hosting or datacenter industry
- Basic understanding of Elasticsearch
