Core Gameplay Programmer Intern - Fortnite

Epic Games is on the lookout for smart, dynamic interns to join our dev teams. When you join Epic you'll join a team that's pushing the limits of gaming and interactive technology. From Unreal Engine and Fortnite, to TwinMotion and the Epic Games Store, you'll contribute to the unrelenting focus on innovation, quality and community that defines us.

Fortnite’s Core Gameplay Team is looking for multiple Gameplay Programmer Interns to join them in 2023.  This team is responsible for developing new moment-to-moment gameplay features to bring the world of Fortnite to life.  Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work in close partnership with gameplay designers and artists to deliver fun new gameplay experiences to our players. 

Our Interns are given challenging projects over the work term, but are supported by dedicated mentors in order to support their learning and development. If you want to build something Epic, this is the opportunity for you!


In This Role You Will

  • Work closely with gameplay designers and artists to create innovative new game features for future seasons of Fortnite Battle Royale
  • Optimize and fix bugs in existing gameplay features
  • Playtest and contribute ideas toward all aspects of the game’s production and development
  • Write robust, maintainable C++ code
  • Expand your knowledge of Unreal Engine, gameplay programming, and game development
  • Ship new code and features in Fortnite Battle Royale


What We’re Looking For

  • Strong C++ knowledge is a must
  • Passionate about game development and Fortnite
  • Knowledge of 3D Math & Linear Algebra
  • Exceptional communication skills and experience working within a team
  • A growth mindset and a focus on learning
  • Able to react and respond effectively to coding feedback 
  • Familiarity with Unreal Engine
