Compass Health Center is a recognized leader in crisis-level mental health, setting the standard for excellence in the Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient space (PHP/IOP). We serve over hundreds of patients every day, ranging from age 6 to senior, in one of our three free-standing facilities, located in Northbrook, Chicago, and Oak Brook, or through our robust virtual programming.  Compass provides an intermediate level of Behavioral Healthcare that fills a critical gap between outpatient and inpatient care. Compass Health Center is the largest and highest quality provider of Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) in Illinois. By the end of 2021 we’ll serve over 800 patients every day, ranging from age 6 through the full life span, in one of our three free-standing facilities located in Northbrook, Chicago, and Oak Brook. Compass provides an intermediate level of Behavioral Healthcare that fills a critical gap between outpatient and inpatient care. Patients and their families turn to Compass when in crisis – every day we help people overcome depression, anxiety, suicidality, obsessions/compulsions, past trauma, chronic pain, and other symptoms that prevent them from living happy and healthy lives.  

We are seeking an experienced leader to build our Learning and Development organization. Reporting directly to our Chief People Officer, the Head of Learning & Development is a brand new role that will be a key contributor to Compass’ strategic goals, leading the design, development, and implementation of all L&D initiatives as we scale our operation within and outside of Illinois.

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Partner with key stakeholders across the organization to understand and assess learning and development needs
  • Develop learning and development strategy for all areas of the organization, including both clinical and operational talent, and all phases of the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, continuing development, and leadership development
  • Assess current technology platforms/learning management systems and design plans to optimize these platforms and systems and/or implement new technologies that better align with our goals
  • Build engaging and inspiring learning content including a blend of live virtual /in-person solutions and on-demand digital solutions. Partner with external vendors as necessary to bring this content to life and ensure effective delivery through hands-on facilitation, train the trainer programs, etc.
  • Ensure effective delivery of these programs
  • Lead our current learning and development team (which is small but mighty), and scale the team in accordance with the company’s growth objectives and strategic planning process

Qualifications (necessary skills and experience required):

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 10 years of learning and development experience; 5 years of experience leading an L&D department / team
  • Experience and prior success in building a learning and development team and function from the ground up
  • Experience in building training content, solutions, and programs geared toward a breadth of different roles and career stages (Examples include: clinical, operations, new hire, continuing development, and leadership development)
  • Experience leading the implementation and optimization of LMS systems
  • Excellent content development, writing, and presentation skills
  • Experience working in a HR start up environment is preferred – we are building out our function from the ground up!
  • Ability to maintain calm under pressure and flex with the needs of the business/team
  • Great communication skills and ability to build strong relationships with leaders and staff
  • Ability to see trends in both quantitative and qualitative data and use that data to communicate with the business
  • Positive attitude and passion for working in the mental health space
