BillionToOne's first product, UNITY™ is the first and only prenatal screen that directly assesses the baby's risk for common and severe inherited disorders such as cystic fibrosis, spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), and hemoglobinopathies from a single tube of blood from the pregnant mother.

BillionToOne is looking for a Product Design Lead to lead and manage all UX Design. UX plays a critical role in the diagnostic testing business. As we all personally experienced through COVID testing, the product is judged by the end-to-end user experience from ordering the test, collecting the sample, waiting for the results to arrive, to receiving the result.  . As the first product designer, you’ll be responsible for designing the seamless end-to-end user experience for both the physical world and the software tools, for both external customers (healthcare providers and patients) and internal users (clinical lab members).  

As the only designer in the room, you’ll be working closely with the R&D, engineering, clinical team, marketing and the company leadership, to implement various design solutions (physical and software) to significantly improve the user experience across the board. As the design owner at BillionToOne, your responsibility will grow quickly as the company scales.

Key Responsibilities:

  • As a Product Designer Lead, you will be responsible for creating unique, clean and delightful experiences for all stakeholders
  • Deeply understand the user behaviors (external customers and internal users) at the every step of the way and solve pain points for them through better UX design  
  • Drive the design vision of the company, working closely with Product Management, Engineering, and Product Marketing leaders
  • Work closely with Product Management and Engineering to plan and create a backlog, push features and design updates, and QA and fix bugs
  • Work on features and products that cross all experiences; physical and software (desktop, mobile web, and native mobile)
  • Design and iterate solutions with various stakeholders in a fast-paced environment 
  • Present your work effectively (through prototypes, user journey diagrams etc.), and help guide decision-making
  • User quantitative and qualitative data to create designs that serve the user


  • To be successful, you’ll need to be a customer-centric designer that balances business goals with creative execution
  • 4+ years of product design experience
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Extensive experience with Figma, Sketch, Abstract, Overflow, and Zeplin
  • Experience with analytics tools like Google Analytics, Mixpanel, and Segment
  • Because you’ll be designing the physical and online experiences for the users, this is an on-site position in the Bay Area (WFH is OK for 1-2 days a week). We do not accept remote applicants.
