WHAT WE NEED

As 2K continues to grow and evolve their global reach, the company is looking for a global marketer with a deep passion for sports to oversee their sports-centric game portfolio. This Vice President of Global Marketing Strategy will be responsible for developing and deploying the overall strategy for a franchise portfolio, capturing the imagination of a global audience, and bringing the next generation of players to the franchise. This person will attract and retain talent to build their team and drive the global marketing vision and brand strategy for the franchise with the mandate to build entertainment properties, drive customer engagement, brand and user growth. This leader will directly support business expansion developing new channels, audiences, and overall strategies, and be the cement that binds the team to develop and lead the global marketing strategy and execution, driving long and short-term success, and delivering business and brand/player results with an insight driven approach.

 

The Vice President, Global Marketing Strategy will serve as the hub of the wheel to set the direction of the overall marketing strategy for the franchise. This leader will be expected to use insights and experience with brand strategy and management to establish and inspire others with a clear vision for products/experiences, while guiding teams towards a unified, metric-driven vision and objective to meet business targets. This person will additionally be responsible for opportunistic and related topics including continue to think beyond gaming to entertainment, guidelines/vision for relevant partnerships (brands, athletes, creators, fashion, music etc), deepening relationships with existing partners while identifying new opportunities that will help amplify the reach of the game, and then be directly responsible for the marketing amplification of those partners.

 

This role will be based in California, north of San Francisco with expectations to be in-office 3 days per week in Novato, CA. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Develop a compelling brand and marketing strategy and vision for the franchise including, as a holistic approach connecting consumers and fans on an emotional level, including the product marketing strategy (vision, goals, roadmap, and prioritization) for the franchise.

  • Be a partner in commercial and product strategy; advise on market potential, how the product should connect with the player, optimal pricing, distribution channels, and launch sequencing, and importantly post launch lifecycle strategies to ensure long term engagement and success of the game.  

  • Ensure the positioning, storytelling, player journey, content, partnerships, marketing tech, audience targeting/engagement plan and KPIs are strategically sound. Define key metrics to foster both commercial success and fosters a positive player experience and relationships. 

  • Lead all short- and long-term marketing around the franchise, core to 2K’s future growth.

  • Ensure that all brand, marketing and product marketing strategy is running smoothly on a month -to- month and quarter-to-quarter basis, and the optimizations are made to deliberately meet player and commercial targets.

  • Develop a deep understanding of the 2K community, the players to develop customer journey driven plans, whether that is for players playing now, players who have lapsed or a future new player to expand audiences.

  • Ensure that all marketing programs are aligned with goals, target audience, and player/commercial strategy for the game.

  • Continue to enhance and grow our brand ambassador strategy and adjacent properties to connect to our player needs, whether this be athletes, celebrities, lifestyle/ culture partners and properties.

  • Deepen the relationships with our league partners and studios and take our co-op plans to the next level exploring new ideas and ways of working to expand audiences and grow engagement and think beyond gaming.

  • Working with Player Sciences and Strategy team to develop marketing business plans, measurement goals and budget proposals for all marketing efforts, guide marketing research, and enhance the team's collective knowledge of 2K's future audience and landscape.

  • Collaborate as a key thought partner across regional and cross functional teams to set and execute against a unified marketing strategy both internally and with relevant partners.

  • Maintain frequent communication with international marketing teams in the US, Europe and Asia regarding regional marketing approaches and insights to ensure on brand/strategy with local relevancy to drive the business forward and connect with the player. 

  • Continue to attract, build, retain and lead a high-performing team and recruit new talent. Foster a love for the mission and drive other new initiatives.

 

WHAT WILL MAKE YOU A GREAT FIT

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned business-oriented passionate sports or entertainment marketer with a global mindset. The ideal candidate will successfully flex between serving as a highly strategic visionary strategist with a nontraditional marketing mindset, and a doer who can operate at the tactical level. S/he will be an excellent influencer across a matrixed organization, and bring experience balancing partnerships, challenging the status quo, and knowing when to bring people on the journey vs driving fast change and directing the team/s.  This person will be a passionate sports fan with a deep understanding of what drives fandom. Importantly, the ideal candidate will create an environment that inspires and empowers the team to do their best creative thinking and work. 

 

The successful candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit, be comfortable working with ambiguity in a fast-paced environment, and adept at building strategies and teams from the ground up that are creative, hypothesis driven, and measurable. This executive will be as comfortable with the science of marketing as with the art and bring new ways of thinking and a willingness to try new ways of marketing. S/he will lead and do the work directly without a reliance on agencies to prepare the strategy and ideas.

 

This individual will ideally bring an understanding of the entire sports ecosystem, allowing them to be a commercial marketer capable of building partnerships and alliances that have a meaningful impact. A global mindset is crucial, as ultimately this leader will be responsible for global targets, whether these be financial, brand or player. This executive will find success through craft expertise, a collaborative spirit, and decision-making that prioritizes the delight of players.

 

IDEAL EXPERIENCE 

  • 15+ years of progressive brand marketing experience in gaming and/or entertainment driven environments.  Ideally with experience of a live product or an entertainment property with a massive franchise

  • Marketing and Product Strategy Expertise: Proven experience building the marketing strategy for a consumer facing product from the ground up.  Comfort working closely with the product organization to align on success

  • Team leadership: A track record of building, leading and mentoring teams

  • Entrepreneurial: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with ambiguity and complexity 

  • Global Perspective: Has worked on global products, understands different regional nuances as it relates to market and player and has experience breaking into new geographic areas

The pay range for this position in California at the start of employment is expected to be between $270,000 and $340,000 per Year. However, base pay offered is based on market location, and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an 'at-will position' and the company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
