The Director of Investment Accounting is responsible for oversight of the accounting and reporting for insurance company investments. The candidate must possess strong Statutory and GAAP accounting and reporting knowledge for investments to support timely and accurate accounting. Experience with accounting for structured securities, options, limited partnerships, and commercial mortgage loan investments is beneficial, with an emphasis on equity method of accounting.
Process and review transactions in the investment accounting system daily, requiring strong analytical skills and attention to detail
Prepare and review financial statement disclosures and schedules for the investment portfolio
Review reports, account reconciliations, analysis and documentation of investment-related general ledger income statement and balance sheet accounts
Lead a team of investment accounting professionals working closely with custodian banks and external investment managers
Oversee and assist in analyzing investment accounting results and communicating with management
Responsible for ensuring investment accounting processes are properly documented as to policies, procedures, and controls
Maintain relationships with both internal and external auditors and complete requests related to GAAP and statutory reporting
Continuously challenge and improve processes to drive efficiencies in the production of deliverables, including financial statement support and footnote details
Research and analyze regulatory, technical, or other information, as deemed necessary
Lead or provide support for investment accounting projects
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
8+ years of investment accounting, financial reporting, or auditing experience preferred
