We are looking for an exceptional Director of Product Documentation to join our growing team. In this role, you will lead and scale a team of technical writers and content management specialists who will deliver a best-in-class product content experience.

This role will work together with other content delivery teams to deliver product content that speaks with one voice and aligns with the Workato brand.The ideal candidate has experience in technical writing, information architecture, and has working knowledge of content management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Documentation Team to create best-in-class content that will expedite time-to-value for our customers. 

  • Partner with engineering, product management, and customer-facing teams to create effective processes that facilitate creating meaningful documentation. 

  • Develop, mentor, and grow a small team of technical writers and content management specialists into a world-class, product documentation unit. 

  • Drive transformation towards an innovative digital experience (e.g., in-product content, contextual help, optimized search, and proactive suggestions). 

  • Identify documentation areas that require overhaul and execute for the benefits of our customers and Workato teams. 

  • Collaborate with all content delivery teams across Workato to create a shared set of content standards and guidelines. 

  • Prioritize initiatives based on customer feedback and build outstanding relationships with Customer Success, Sales and product leadership to always put customers first. 

  • Support and mentor product managers and engineers with required information and guidance to be able to create excellent documentation. 

  • Create an ontology of content to be used across multiple properties (e.g., tutorials, documentation, and within the product).

Requirements

  • You are comfortable in creating and editing content in multiple formats including micro-content for use within a product, blog-format content, and template-based content.

  • You are excited to learn about the complexities of technical products, but even more excited to distill that complexity into ways that people new to software testing can understand.

  • You have effective program management skills, with a demonstrated ability to lead complex strategic and operational initiatives and deliver in a timely and predictive manner.

  • You understand the common operations and processes of enterprise IT environments and how those are different if you’re delivering on-prem or cloud solutions.

  • Bachelor’s degrees in technical writing, computer science, or a related field with at least 5-7 years of experience in technical writing.

  • Experience with JavaScript, RESTful APIs, JSON, Python, code commenting tools, and source code repositories (GitHub preferred).

  • Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders, both technical and non-technical.

  • Knowledge of technical writing standards and familiarity with common style guides.

  • Experience and expertise with SEO is a plus

Your First Three Months

  • Month 1: You’ll be in “listen and learn” mode. You’ll meet with your team and other key colleagues through Workato to understand the current state of documentation and to learn more about the company culture and strategic direction. 

  • Month 2: You’ll draft a comprehensive plan for improving how product content gets produced at Workato, seeking and incorporating the feedback of your colleages and team members. 

  • Month 3: You’ll co-lead a content alignment initiative with other content delivery department heads.
