About the Engineering team: 

We have around 120 engineers out of roughly 600 people in total - and we have big ambitions. There are many interesting challenges ahead, and we're happy for people to move between teams or to specialise, whatever you prefer. As an engineer here you'd be able to work directly with anyone across the company, and we run regular knowledge-sharing sessions, so you’ll learn heaps about everything from how insurance works to effective communication. 

Your day to day: 

This role is all about collaborating across disciplines to test hypotheses and make a difference to customers. As a Product Frontend engineer, you’ll work in a team alongside product owner, marketers, designers, software engineers, data analysts, business analysts, delivery managers, quality engineers and more!   

Together you’ll build and support a particular part of Policy Expert. Our teams belong to our wider product led verticals (we use to describe self-governing business units). They are; Home, Pet, Motor, Shared Services, Platform, Pricing / Underwriting / Fraud and Data science. They’re all looking for additional Software Engineers right now, we do a standard interview process across all our collectives and at the end we will find the best match for you based on your skills, experience, preferences and aligning with the business need!   

Our software engineers have a variety of different backgrounds. If you enjoy learning new things, we’d love to talk to you. We do not ask for formal qualifications or degree requirements for any of our engineering roles. 

Who are you: 

  • you have strong experience working on the Frontend of a technology product  
  • you want to be involved in building a product that you (and the people you know) use every day  
  • you have a product mindset: you care about customer outcomes, and you want to make data-informed decisions  
  • you’re comfortable working in a team that deals with ambiguity  
  • you’re interested in distributed systems and writing resilient software  
  • you have experience building client applications using React and comfortable writing code in Typescript.  
  • you think you’d enjoy the kind of work we’re doing  
  • proficiency in writing high-quality unit tests, acceptance tests, contract tests and other forms of automated tests.   
  • you can undertake detailed research to solve complex challenges.   
  • you understand systems architecture and scalable systems.   
  • You possess excellent communication skills for effective teamwork and clear discussions with non-technical stakeholders. 

Desirable Skills: 

  • you are familiar with our tech stack.  
  • you have a solid grasp of Domain-Driven Design, Event Sourcing, Event-Driven Design, and Test-Driven Development.  
  • you have experience building products end-to-end not necessarily greenfield, from ideation to implementation and support.  
  • you have deep knowledge using Java.   
  • you have prior experience in the insurance or financial sector.   
  • you have hands-on experience in projects using AWS Cloud.
