Flow Traders is looking for an experienced M&A professional to serve as the firm’s Head of M&A, to be based in Amsterdam.

You have a strong M&A background and seek a position where you can reshape and further improve a company’s strategy through building strategic alliances, partnerships as well as by initiating and executing ecosystem plays through M&A. In this context, you are a deal-oriented thinker who enjoys working with and challenging the Management Board and Supervisory Board.

In this position, you will act as trusted advisor to the Management Board and Supervisory Board of Flow Traders N.V., the Euronext Amsterdam-listed entity within the overall Flow Traders group. You will work closely together with both Boards, the various Supervisory Board committees, the Legal team, Investor Relations, Public Affairs, Corporate Communications, the Regulatory Compliance Team and other internal and external stakeholders. You will directly report to Flow Traders’ Chief Financial Officer (CFO), who oversees Strategy, M&A and Investor Relations, in addition to Finance & Tax.

What you will do

  • Identify, review and execute ecosystem plays (specifically related to M&A for strategic investments and acquisitions as add-ons to the existing business) in light of the company’s existing and developing strategy
  • Develop, challenge and constantly update Flow Traders’ ecosystem and M&A strategy based on the company’s top tactical and strategic priorities
  • Build a best-in-class M&A process, both relating to the identification of potential opportunities/ targets, the execution of transaction and the integration of acquired businesses into the firm
  • Prepare and constantly update tiered target list of potential M&A opportunities/ targets globally across all relevant sectors, asset classes, capabilities and regions
  • Build an internal risk assessment for ecosystem-related transactions, focusing on key existing and emerging risks and potential mitigants
  • Identify, build and deepen key relationships to external parties that require attention from a broader ecosystem/ M&A perspective (i.e., such as prospective targets)
  • Support the systematic build-up of all required M&A capabilities throughout the firm, identifying and systematically addressing critical shortfalls
  • Design, implement and develop systematic monitoring approach and tool to track Flow Traders’ success in building out the company’s ecosystem and M&A strategy over time
  • Provide ongoing support with regard to the strategy and execution of Flow Traders’ ecosystem and M&A approach to the company’s CFO, the Management and Supervisory Board; more specifically, support, advice and challenge Flow Traders’ Management and Supervisory Board on:
  • The company’s existing ecosystem and M&A strategy and agenda
  • Ongoing market evolution and relevant market structure changes, understanding the impact of these changes on Flow Traders’ existing ecosystem and M&A strategy
  • The development of Flow Traders’ broader competitive environment, both within and outside the global market maker sector
  • The development of Flow Traders’ regulatory environment, specifically related to both emerging opportunities and threats
  • Provide support in identifying, building and cultivating external relationships to relevant counter-parties (competitors, industry networks, industry experts, VC/ PE investors, regulators etc.) to help further building Flow Traders’ reputation in global financial markets and to systematically bring in external insights
  • Together with Flow Traders‘ CFO and Investor Relations Officer (IRO) prepare, facilitate and engage in external communication on the company’s ecosystem- and M&A-related topics
  • Facilitate smooth and effective communication lines between the Management and Supervisory Board as well as external auditors and legal counsel (as required)

What you need to succeed

  • Business or similar degree from leading university (preferably on Master, MBA or PhD level)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar position at an investment bank or in the Strategy/ M&A department of an industry player in the financial services sector, preferably in the financial market infrastructure sector
  • High degree of natural affinity with global financial markets and the ongoing market structure evolution (esp. around crypto/ digital assets/ decentralized finance, ESG etc.)
  • Being a strategic and deal-related thinker, influencer and self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to work efficiently and independently
  • Strong diplomatic, negotiation and facilitation skills, including being a strong communicator and someone who enjoys managing multiple stakeholders across a variety of topics
  • Excellent attention to detail and experienced in preparing highly impactful presentations for Management and Supervisory Boards
  • A proactive and flexible personality who thrives in a fast-paced environment and fits in with our agile company culture
  • Fluency in English (and Dutch desirable) both written and spoken
