About the Role

The Solutions Engineering team at Envoy lives within the Customer Success organization but touches every team (sales, product, engineering, finance, etc). The team is adaptable and has the uncanny ability to pick up new skills quickly. Each day is different and involves assisting account executives with the pre-sales process, security questions, QA’ing some experimental functionality, or jumping on a call to both triage and solve a customer issue. The Solutions Engineering team is multifaceted at Envoy and includes elements of sales engineering, API development, support escalations, and world-class enterprise customer support. You might be a Solutions Engineer if you are technology-forward, enjoy learning new third-party SaaS products, find workarounds to make customers happy, and love playing with the latest technology.

This is a hybrid position that requires at least 3 days a week (Tuesday - Thursday) in our New York City office.

You will

  • Align with the Customer Success team to assist in all aspects of the post-sales process, such as technical demos for new features, security reviews/questionnaires, technical troubleshooting, and discussions around technical requirements while setting realistic expectations with customers. 
  • Work closely with a customer’s information technology, security, and legal teams to maintain compliance and user security standards.
  • Leading the implementation and integration of solutions into the customer's environment. Working directly with customers to understand their business requirements and tailor the product accordingly.
  • Be the liaison between customer-facing teams and Product, Engineering, and Design teams. Advocate for Envoy’s customers and provide critical feedback to product and engineering teams to greatly influence the direction of our products ensuring that company goals are aligned with customer needs.
  • Hunt down answers within data and logs to uncover sneaky product bugs.
  • Educate coworkers and customers on complex technical issues like SAML, SCIM, OAuth, 3rd party integrations, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Become well versed in Envoy’s Developer & Integration Platform in order to speak and demonstrate how our various integrations are interconnected. This includes understanding our API capabilities to help the customer and/or partner to handle their development.

You have  

  • 4+ years in a technical solutions engineering or partner engineering role, alternatively 5+ years in a technical account management role, or 3+ years as an Implementation Engineer role
  • Intermediate SQL skills and can easily investigate issues through data.
  • Familiarity with git and command-line tools.
  • You know how the internet works (i.e. DNS, HTTP, TLS, Certificates, etc).
  • You have a basic understanding of APIs; understanding of API architecture (i.e. entity hierarchy, statelessness, idempotent methods, etc) a plus
  • The ability to write simple scripts to solve day-to-day issues.

You are

  • Scrappy. You have a hybrid of functional and technical skills that emphasize your problem-solving strategies and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable communicating with high-level   (IT directors, legal teams, and facilities managers) and can have heart-to-heart conversations with software developers.
  • An excellent communicator, both verbal and written.
  • A self-starter who enjoys owning projects end-to-end. You thrive in small teams and enjoy the challenge of occasionally stepping outside your comfort zone to learn something new.
  • Security-conscious. As Envoy becomes commonplace around the world, the data we store will be more and more valuable. It is your job to make our storage practices a no-brainer for our customers and evangelize best practices.
  • Interested in educating others and helping your team grow together.

Nice to have

  • You have the ability to learn Ruby on Rails Active Record Query Interface
  • Understanding of SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language) and Active Directory. Knowledge of SSO (Single Sign-On) access control also a plus.
  • Experience installing/configuring IT infrastructure (e.g. switches, routers, VOIP, wireless).
  • Experience with badge/ID printers, physical security, and digital security cameras.
  • You're excited about working in a nimble and challenging startup environment.
  • You have experience with efficiently completing security reviews and RFPs using tools such as Loopio or Whistic
  • Nice to have languages and technical knowledge: TypeScript, Node, JavaScript, Python, Kubernetes
  • You have 2+ years of experience explaining how to use APIs; understanding of API architecture (i.e. entity hierarchy, statelessness, idempotent methods, etc) a plus
  • 1+ years in leadership experience (optional)
 

Compensation description 

Envoy's compensation package includes market competitive salary, equity for all full time roles, and great benefits. If you are located in the New York City area, our expected cash compensation for this role is $$166,600 - $190,000 OTE. We are considering various backgrounds, so final offers may vary within the range provided based on experience, expertise, and other factors.
