About the Role

The Associate Director, Media Buying is responsible for serving as a day to day leader inside our Media Department, mentoring and working closely with a unified media buying unit consisting of Analysts, Senior Analysts and Managers. You will be functioning as a trusted and respected leader within the organization and relied upon for high-level operations management, innovation, and client/partner relationships. You will report into a Director, Media, working closely with this individual, your buying teammates as well as other core discipline team members (Media Planning, Media Analytics) as required to service your assigned clients’ goals. Depending on the level, scale, complexity and external communication, you will be assigned between one to three core clients to work on in your role.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for guiding a team of media buyers, focused on 3+ individuals and 1+ clients
  • Work directly with Managers, Senior Analysts and Analysts to carry out strategic and tactical plans for the buying team, not being afraid to jump in to resolve any pain points and help carry heavy workloads

  • Take responsibility for and rectify (as needed) any mistakes or errors made by team members
  • Work with your Director to deliver best-in-class media investment strategy and execution outputs, derived from industry insights and expertise
  • Ensure strategy / approach / direction meets (or exceeds) client expectations for any given campaign or initiative, striving to be proactive vs. reactive with your approach to their businesses
  • Develop and nurture relationships with cross-discipline leaders, supporting the Director to collaborate on client strategy (specifically, Planning and Analytics teams, as well as Creative teams when applicable)
  • Contribute to the continued growth and stability of VaynerMedia, by exhibiting thoughtful decisions and actions that are best for the company both today and tomorrow
  • Exhibit rich expertise and depth of knowledge around core biddable digital platforms, with a specific focus on Facebook, Google, Amazon and others
  • Actively consider new opportunities for key client(s), proactively recommending new tactics, partners, etc.
  • Share agency POVs on hot topics; discussing client nuances and customizing message when appropriate.  Share other agency highlights and best practices, and customize to how this can help their account.

Key Skills

  • Proven ad buying expertise (from campaign planning through execution/optimization through final reporting/wrap-up) across multiple key biddable platforms (Facebook, Google (Search, YouTube, DV360),  Amazon (AMS, DSP, AMG), Twitter, Snapchat, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Publisher Direct, Connected TV/OTT)
  • Strong analytical skills including developing data-driven media and measurement plans for highly complex businesses
  • Fluency with analytics & attribution systems (DoubleClick/Google Analytics Suite/Adobe Analytics, MOAT/IAS/DoubleVerify, Nielsen/Millward Brown/Oracle, Neustar/VisualIQ/Convertro, etc.)
  • Comfort in Excel, experience with Tableau/Looker/Data Studio/other data visualization programs, fundamental understanding of economics & statistics a must
  • Able to anticipate campaign results based upon prior experience / use cases of recommended strategy
  • Clear attention-to-detail and organizational excellence to ensure flawless delivery of planned strategies
  • Exceptional communication skills: email, phone, presentations; is strategic, thoughtful, and can triage issues appropriately
  • Prepared to be the key figure in internal/external meetings as often as not
  • Able to clearly and accurately communicate to Managers, Senior Analysts and Analysts to achieve team priorities and unify team members around a common goal
  • Relay any concerns / needs accurately and in a timely fashion to the Director and above

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum 5+ years of industry-related experience
  • Track record of successfully managing and executing digital media buying programs at scale
  • A proven understanding and expertise in investment strategy within the social/digital space and how to properly integrate within wider omnichannel marketing mixes
  • Strategic understanding of traditional, digital, and social-specific media planning & buying, along with the proper metrics of success and measurement opportunities
  • Experience leading and managing growing teams of at least 5+ people
  • An empathetic, upbeat demeanor, and warm personality that contributes to an already ridiculously-strong company culture
