In A Nutshell:

The Director, Video Activation will be tasked with leading client strategy & investments for the agency’s fast growing linear TV & non-linear CTV convergent video practice. It covers internal team management as well as direct & programmatic marketplaces.  

The Director reports into a S/VP, Media and will work on a cohesive full service agency team consisting of buying, planning, analytics and client service professionals working across one or more clients. Functional media roles include oversight of convergent video operations, fostering client and marketplace relationships, overseeing investment approach and executional excellence.  Our Media Directors work closely with clients, outside platform/network/app representatives, and agency leaders to ensure VaynerMedia is on the cutting edge of “the next level”.  We look for Directors that embody a true leadership mentality.  We love seeing leaders that devote their days to making their teams successful, working for them, not above them, providing thought leadership, guidance and fostering their growth within VaynerMedia. 

What You’d Do:

  • Act as thought-leader and advisor on linear and emerging TV trends (i.e., CTV, Programmatic, Addressable), or ‘modern video for modern living rooms’, as a key member of the internal Video COE, which offers agency-wide counsel.
  • Lead check-ins with key account and media internal counterparts to ensure video projects are moving ahead and are thoughtful, high quality, and exceeding client expectations.
  • Develop and deliver sophisticated media investment strategies to clients, derived from industry insights, negotiations, ad tech skills and QA reporting.
  • Lead negotiations with direct-TV/CTV IO vendors and help manage ad tech deployments with biddable video platforms and 3P partners, either as an active trader or as a central lead advising day-to-day buying teams across the agency 
  • Act as the key contact for client and platform/network/app partners, operating as a go-to voice and leader for both US and North American accounts.
  • Help create video media plans, assist in presentation material creation, and provide strategic guidance on reporting and or advisory calls with clients.
  • Collaborate across agency disciplines to craft best-in-class, holistic omnichannel media strategies rooted in driving tangible business outcomes for large and emerging brands.
  • Continue to establish internal policies and POVs on agency partnerships, the general convergent video media landscape, and current client business cases.
  • Provide thought leadership around how this speciality unit of the agency’s Investment business should be run, in tandem with setting both internal and external expectations as to the realities of daily business execution.
  • Manage up to senior agency leadership corresponding to the most crucial aspects of a client's business, keeping them abreast of any pertinent developments and urgent client needs.
  • Work to proactively bring new/emerging innovative opportunities to clients, pushing the envelope of media excellence in TV, streaming and ad tech/data.
  • Forge client relationships and help maintain account health for the well-being of the immediate team and larger agency around the video discipline.
  • Work in conjunction with HR to teach, engage, and grow direct reports and provide a positive work environment. 

What You’ve Got:

  • A minimum 6+ years of industry experience working in direct and programmatic TV and CTV, with a proven track record of executing sophisticated, large scale convergent video media programs that drove tangible business outcomes.
  • Depth and breadth of Upfronts/Scatter/Opportunistic buying experience guiding large-scale integrated video investment strategies across key industry stakeholders such as the following: 
    • Network/Cable/Streaming Media: Disney, Paramount, NBCU, and Fox
    • AVOD/FAST: Netflix; Amazon Prime Video; Vevo; Tubi; Pluto; FreeVee
    • MVPDs/vMVPDs: Comcast; Charter; YouTubeTV; Sling; Fubo; Ampersand
    • SSPs/DSPs: DV360; Trade Desk; Amazon Ads; Magnite; Xandr; Freewheel
    • SmartTV/TV-OS: Roku; Telly; LG; Samsung; Vizio; FireTV
    • Programmatic CTV 3P Firms: Innovid; Brightline; IRI; Captify; Alliant; KERV
    • Alt Video Platforms: Vistar; Screenvision; NCM; T-Ads; Atmosphere; GSTV
    • Stewardship: Mediaocean; Mediatools; Prisma

      Any Additional Experience in the following a plus:

  • Local TV/Cable, DRTV, Addressable TV, Data-Driven Linear, Syndication
  • Unwired/Convergent TV platforms (eg Tatari, Simulmedia, Cadent, ITN)

  • Some fluency with analytics, attribution, measurement and stewardship systems.  Including but not limited to:

    • Foot Traffic: Placed, 9th Decimal, PlaceIQ,
  • Ability to lead by example in terms of attention to detail, general work ethic, empathy and internal/external professionalism.
  • You live for today’s modern video consumer and are passionate about developing brand-specific TV/CTV/AdTech strategies. 
  • You constantly seek out innovative partners/platforms and identify new opportunities and new cut-through ideas
  • An individual who demonstrates the ability to navigate a portfolio of brands within a larger conglomerate or business group, gain an understanding of their unique company architectures, to build and strengthen relationships with essential stakeholders
  • A person that is well versed in media who can utilize resources to help guide client’s marketing goals in their respective markets (syndicated, proprietary, analyst data)
  • Understand and adopt new techniques and technologies that are relevant for clients’ media strategies (with a calm and cool demeanor!)
