The Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games will be hosted in Los Angeles, California in 2028, returning to the United States for the first time in over 30 years. 2028 will be the first time LA hosts the Paralympic Games, creating an opportunity to expand awareness, understanding and inclusion of people with disabilities.

United States Olympic and Paralympic Properties (USOPP) is a commercial joint venture between the Los Angeles Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2028 (LA 2028) and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC). The USOPP is the sole entity charged with marketing and selling combined commercial assets, including; rights to the 2022, 2024, 2026 and 2028 U.S Olympic and Paralympic Teams and the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.

Director, E-Commerce & Retail

The Director of E-Commerce will oversee, develop, manage and grow the e-commerce business, including monitoring product mix, inventory levels, sales targets, planning content and execution of e-commerce digital campaigns for both USOPC (United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee), NGB IP (National Governing Body Intellectual Property), and LA28. In addition, oversee all controlled retail for USOPC and LA28 marketing events, including Olympic Trials and LA28 Games retail. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Consumer Products, the Director will manage the strategic plans, budgets, forecasting and execution of ecommerce marketing programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage outside agencies, including daily communications and strategies for existing and new commerce and email marketing programs. Provide complete oversight of timelines, copy and promotional items.
  • Serve as the main point of contact with Fanatics and other designated licensees to work with national retailers to help sell in and develop retailer specific marketing campaigns, tactics and in-store marketing materials to promote the sale of Team USA and LA28 products.
  • Enhance fan/customer database that provides value to the United States Olympic and Paralympic Properties (USOPP) by partnering with USOPC and LA28
  • Develop and execute cross functional/ inter-departmental communications to the different segments and fans of the USOPC and LA28 databases.
  • Oversee planning, creative and reporting with outside agency for all customer/fan acquisition paid media campaigns.
  • Create annualized marketing calendars that generate noise, encourage sell-in and drive sell-through of consumer products.
    • Establish a Team USA campaign to drive buzz throughout each calendar year.
    • Create Team USA and LA28 Consumer Products marketing campaign with cadence for launching new designs/goods to drive excitement within the 2024-2028 timeframe.
    • Direct product placement/ influencer gifting programs around new graphic and product launches
  • Collaborate with retailers to ensure alignment of all messaging with Team USA and LA28 branding.
    • Work with Consumer Products licensing and retail teams to identify in-store marketing activations around key timeframes (seasonal, Games-specific, Team USA, LA28 build-up)
    • Plan in-store design elements (signage, windows, fixtures, POS, etc.) for comprehensive and cohesive brand statements across Team USA/ LA28 owned-retail
    • Initiate sponsor-owned consumer products programs that provide exclusive partner value and drive sales on teamusashop.com and LA28shop.org

Background and Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in e-commerce, retail, wholesale, buying and retail activations or related fields
  • Proven strategic planner with retail and e-commerce campaign success for global brands or entities that have both commercial and purposeful dimensions
  • Proven track record of growing e-commerce and retail business
  • Ability to lead and direct third party suppliers and licensees to align with overall company financial and engagement goals
  • Ability to work gross functionally across multiple different stakeholders and marketing initiatives
  • Dynamic leader adept at thriving in both small-scale and large-scale environments with proven experience managing high-performing teams
  • Optimistic and collaborative multi-tasker who can manage a dynamic environment with numerous critical stakeholders simultaneously
  • Crisis management experience and ability to quickly, calmly and accurately address questions and concerns under high-pressure scenarios
  • Excitement for the role and opportunity to help shape the future of the Olympic and Paralympic Movement
  • Proven experience centering equity and inclusion principles in facilitating e-commerce, retail, wholesale, buying and retail activations work to increase accessibility for underrepresented groups in procurement and consumer experiences.

Education:

  • An undergraduate degree in marketing, communications, or business or equivalent work experience

 

The annual base salary range for this position is $135,000.00 - $170,000.00 The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
