Role Overview

Are you looking to enhance Jewish student life on campus? Hillel Ottawa is in search of a Student Engagement and Advocacy Coordinator to implement the mission of building and sustaining vibrant, meaningful, and pluralistic Jewish life on Ottawa’s university and college campuses. The Student Engagement and Advocacy Coordinator strategically divides their time between two key responsibilities: engaging Jewish students in exciting events and programs and executing a proactive advocacy strategy. Reporting to Hillel’s Director, this role has opportunity to empower students, combat antisemitism, and build meaningful relationships at the University of Ottawa, Carleton University and Algonquin College. 

What You’ll Do

Engagement

  • Seek out Jewish students at three campuses in Ottawa and build relationships with them
  • Mentor and develop the next generation of Jewish leaders
  • Identify under-involved student populations and develop strategies for contacting and engaging them
  • Facilitate connection of students to one another and develop affinity networks 

Program and Event Coordination

  • Design and implement engaging programs and events that reflect Jewish values and traditions and are congruent with Hillel’s overall programmatic vision
  • Leverage social media to engage students, and to promote the various Hillel activities
  • Customize marketing, promotional and printed materials
  • Support student-initiated programs and serve as a Jewish resource to students and groups and campus

Advocacy

  • Work collaboratively with student leadership, various stakeholders and clubs on campus and to create and execute a proactive advocacy strategy
  • Together with student leadership, coordinate and implement programs and activities that promote and strengthen Israel advocacy on campus
  • Prepare for and respond effectively and strategically to anti-Israel/antisemitic incidents on campus, in collaboration with Hillel’s primary partners

Operational

  • Manage Hillel’s CRM database including event registration forms and subscriber lists
  • Cultivate relationships with and work closely with Hillel Student Executive team
  • Contribute to Hillel Ottawa’s funding initiatives, from annual campaigns to special projects and fundraising effort

Skills, Qualifications and Mindset

  • Bachelor’s degree or post-secondary certificate or diploma
  • Significant knowledge of Israel, Jewish values and traditions • Commitment and belief in the mission of Hillel Ottawa to enrich the lives of Jewish students so that they may enrich the Jewish people and the world
  • Demonstrated involvement in student government, political organizing or active engagement in campus life, with an understanding and appreciation for campus dynamics
  • Project management experience required, particularly with multiple projects simultaneously
  • Exceptional relationship building and networking skills; ability to work effectively within a team
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends (excluding Jewish holidays) as needed
  • Familiar with digital marketing strategies including social, email, search and programmatic
  • A cellphone, valid driver’s license, and a reliable vehicle

Preferred Skills 

  • Experience with Canva
  • Experience with project management software/systems
  • Experience in Israel Advocacy
  • Familiarity with Ottawa’s Jewish community is a plus

Salary & Benefits 

  • 35 hours a week $45,000
