The Opportunity – Director of Payments Product Marketing

The Director of Payments Product Marketing will be a marketing executive who is a knowledgeable and passionate customer advocate and thought-leader focused on growing the volume and profitability of online payment activity on the FreshBooks platform.  The Director of Payments Product Marketing  must be a savvy marketer with a proven track record in defining go-to-market strategies, leading new product introduction initiatives and building customer segmentation frameworks. 

The ideal candidate has a relentless focus on driving growth and bringing to market new ways to complete transactions in a meaningful and value-add way for our small business customers. You understand the challenges related to online payments, the different market dynamics, competitive landscape, and most importantly how to positively impact customer sentiment and drive new behavior. You are a natural collaborator, and in this leadership role will partner with   the Product Development team to design comprehensive go-to-market plans.  You’ll then ensure those plans are successfully brought to life by partnering with your fellow marketers in the Customer Experience and Marketing Services teams.  Excellent analytical and communication skills and comfort with ambiguity are a must.

Specifically, this position includes: 

  • Create impactful and concise value-based positioning for products (create benefit statements, and key messaging)
  • Define target segments and personas for each product
  • Define points of difference and competitive advantage with thorough competitive analysis
  • Use qualitative and quantitative market research and customer analytics to collect insight to inform and improve strategies and tactics
  • Define and recommend a multi-faceted go-to-market plan for product and feature launches
  • Collaborate with Product Management to help shape our product roadmap, define business models and develop pricing strategies for new products and features
  • Work with with Business Development to expand ecosystem relationships that would enhance the success of the payments business
  • Work with Customer Acquisition and Customer Experience teams to attract and educate target segments and drive product adoption
  • Work with Sales, Marketing Services, PR and Content Marketing teams to develop all necessary communications to support new product introductions
  • Support sales and marketing activities that drive online payment adoption and transaction volume
  • Forecast revenue and profit margins for payments products and continually track results

We think you'll be an amazing fit for this position if you:

  • Have a post-secondary education focusing on business or marketing; MBA preferred
  • Have a minimum of 10 years progressive experience in product marketing in the financial services, ecommerce, financial technology or SAAS industries
  • Have a proven track record of success leading a team in defining, planning, positioning and launching products to market
  • Are a strategic thinker who can collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders and have the proven ability to influence cross-functional teams
