A Graduate Engineer position is available with the City of Fort Worth Development Services within the Capital Delivery Small-Scale Infrastructure Program, which delivers all infrastructure categories including pedestrian lights, streetlights, water & sewer, as well as Roadway Infrastructure. The selected candidate will perform engineering duties related to the design and construction of public works projects including project planning, executing design and construction contracts and reviewing construction plans and specifications. The Graduate Engineer will also prepare and review cost estimates, create and track project schedules, conduct site visits, assist in advertising and bidding projects, monitor projects through the construction phase, and complete and close out projects. While the work is technical in nature, there is a strong focus on customer service, communication and accountability. If you have the ability to work effectively with co-workers and a broad spectrum of customers, meet schedule service standards then this would be a perfect position for you.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or electrical engineering or other engineering discipline from an accredited college or university with no experience required.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with construction plans, cost estimates and project schedules.
- Competence in Project Management.
- Experience with Bluebeam or Adobe software for plan review.
- Experience with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Experience and working knowledge of GIS (web based or ArcMap).
The Graduate Engineer job responsibilities include:
- Client Service Management, which includes meeting with Developers to explain the different Development Options at the City of Fort Worth and make recommendations to them, as our clients, given project specific constraints/characteristics.
- Follow established processes to perform Feasibility Studies using GIS and other City Operating, Permitting and Asset Management Software Systems.
- Work with Professional Engineers and Project Managers to deliver multiple simultaneous infrastructure improvement projects while coordinating with a variety of stakeholders to deliver projects within budget and on schedule within very tight time constraints.
- Gaining expert-level knowledge of engineering design criteria related to the design of roadways, intersections, roundabouts, sidewalks, waterlines, sanitary sewer, driveway approaches, alleys, pedestrian facilities, solar lighting as well as traditional Street and Pedestrian Lights.
- Performing detailed review of construction drawings and specifications throughout the design process and providing comments and direction to consultant design engineers. This includes preliminary planning and pre-development phase through design plan review as well as coordination with the outside development community and internal City departments.
- Creating and reviewing cost estimates representing the Total Project Budget Estimate of a project including project design costs, utility and ROW costs, construction costs, contingencies and escalation, construction administration, testing and inspection costs and project close-out costs
- Developing and reviewing project schedules including durations and milestones for project initiation, agreement execution, design, review, permitting, ROW acquisition, utility relocation, construction and close-out.
- Creating project presentations, taking site photographs, writing status reports and performing analyses to allow proactive communication about projects with City leadership, stakeholders in other City departments, residents of the City of Fort Worth and state and federal agencies.
- Assisting in the processing of professional services contracts and construction contracts including engineering contract amendments and construction change orders.
- Coordinating the advertising and bidding of projects for construction.
Working Conditions
