Who are we?

We’re building artificial intelligence capable of complex driving using end-to-end deep learning; one which can scale across diverse urban environments. Wayve is building a full driving software system which is data-driven at every layer, learning to drive. Our unique end-to-end machine learning approach learns to drive in complex, never-seen-before urban environments. We learn to drive with computer vision by both observing human driving, and by using reinforcement learning.

This is one of the world’s hardest and most impactful problems to solve. Which is why we are building a diverse, world class team of people. We are motivated to turn up, not for a job, but for an opportunity to work with clever people on difficult problems which leave a positive impact on the world we live in.

Where you’ll have impact:

As squad lead of Simulation Intelligence as part of our Science team, you’ll be responsible for growing and managing a team of scientists and research engineers, collaborating closely with senior technical leadership at Wayve to identify the challenges and opportunities for impact, defining a roadmap, and maintaining great team health as you execute on it.  We look for empathetic leaders with a growth mindset who understand the importance of culture and care about and invest in their team members to help them achieve their full potential.  We are currently looking for leaders with particular expertise in:

  • Neural reconstruction and rendering for static and dynamic scenes
  • Learned behaviour and physics modeling of interacting cars, people, and other dynamic agents
  • Vision transformer architectures and platform models
  • Generative image models and style transfer
  • World models to how to scale models efficiently across data, model size, and compute, while maintaining efficient deployment on the car

You'll be working on some of the world's hardest problems, and able to attack them in new ways, with world-class data and compute resources at your fingertips.  You'll be a key member of our diverse, cross-disciplinary and collaborative team, helping teach our robots how to drive safely and comfortably in complex real-world environments.  Our work encompasses many aspects of research across perception, prediction, planning, control, simulation, graphics, and neural rendering, including:

  • how to leverage our large, rich, and diverse sources of real-world driving data
  • how to architect our models to best employ the latest advances in CNNs, transformers, world models, etc.
  • which learning algorithms to use (e.g. reinforcement learning, behavioural cloning)
  • how to leverage simulation for controlled experimental insight, training data augmentation, and re-simulation
  • how to leverage machine learning to improve the realism and diversity of our simulator, for example through generative models and neural rendering

You will also have the potential to lead academic publications for top-tier conferences like CVPR, ICRA, ICLR, NeurIPS, etc. working in a world-class team to achieve this.

What you’ll bring to Wayve:

  • Experience in scientific project leadership and management, ideally at least partially in an industrial research environment
  • A passion for applying machine learning to simulation and synthetic data generation
  • Thorough knowledge of and 5 years applied experience across several (not necessarily all) of machine learning, computer vision, generative models, neural rendering, deep learning, dynamic behaviour modeling, reinforcement learning, and robotics
  • Familiarity with deep learning frameworks (Python and Pytorch preferred)
  • Strong software engineering leadership skills with the ability to deliver high quality code, including code-reviewing, integration, data management, source control, etc.
  • Ability to understand, reimplement, author and critique cutting-edge research papers
  • PhD in a relevant area and / or track records of delivering value through machine learning are a big plus

What we offer you:

  • Competitive compensation with salary and equity
  • Immersion in a team of world-class researchers, engineers and entrepreneurs
  • A position to shape the future of autonomous driving and to tackle the biggest challenges of our time
  • Benefits such as an onsite chef, workplace nursery scheme, private health insurance, therapy, daily yoga, onsite bar, large social budgets, unlimited L&D requests, and more!
  • This is a full-time role based in our office in King’s Cross, but we support flexible working, including working for up to 2 weeks from anywhere in the world. We trust you to know what works best for your team and projects and ask that you have a healthy presence that enables the right meetings to happen in person and strong relationships to be built.

Wayve is built by people from all walks of life. We believe that it is our differences that make us stronger, and our unique perspectives and backgrounds that allow us to build something different. We are proud to be an equal opportunities workplace, where we don’t just embrace diversity but nurture it - so that we all thrive and grow.
