The primary goals of a consultant are to conduct pre-campaign feasibility studies and direct capital campaigns. In order to accomplish these goals, the following tasks are involved:


  • Comply with Pennington & Company policies, the Association of Fundraising Professionals Code of Ethical Principles and Standards of Professional Practice
  • Administer communication with consulting team and administrative assistant to more efficiently service the clients and work load within the team
  • Identify, rate and rank potential major donor prospects
  • Conduct prospect research, including data mining and any additional research
  • Develop case for support and additional materials specific to project goals
  • Establish and maintain consistent client communication
  • Assist with all other Pennington & Company related tasks and projects as assigned by management
  • Maintain working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, Salesforce and Adobe Acrobat

Pre-Campaign Feasibility Study:

  • Schedule and utilize available resources in order to assess the fundraising potential of client
  • Arrange, in conjunction with client, and conduct a Focus Group with purpose of assessing donor potential
  • Coordinate and conduct interviews that will inform, educate, and cultivate major gift prospects for a campaign
  • Evaluate the dollar potential, develop a plan, and formulate recommendations for conducting capital campaign; or in the case of a negative study, best prepare the client for a future campaign

Capital Campaign:

  • Devise, develop and implement campaign strategies specifically designed to achieve the goals of campaign
  • Build and maintain the campaign’s administrative structure, including payments system, routine reporting, and communications effort
  • Identify, recruit, and train volunteer campaign leadership to assist with campaign
  • Educate collegiate membership on their role in the campaign, and solicit their support and participation
  • Coordinate and conduct solicitations, in conjunction with volunteers, to secure campaign contributions
  • Organize and implement broad solicitation effort , while training and guiding volunteers
  • Market direct-mail campaign and ensure a smooth transition of client to Alumni Relations Account Manager
  • The employee’s primary duty must be the performance of work requiring advanced knowledge, defined as work which is predominantly intellectual in character and which includes work requiring the consistent exercise of discretion and judgment;
  • The advanced knowledge must be in a field of science or learning; and;
  • The advanced knowledge must be customarily acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction.
  • Traveling to on-site meetings or in-person solicitations

Required Skills, Experience, and Competencies:

  • 2+ years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising, higher education, or consulting required
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of databases, and/or fundraising database software required; experience with Salesforce preferred
  • Exceptional level of organization and project management skills
  • Ability to develop strong, trusted relationships with clients and key contacts
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, present, and influence at all levels of a non-profit organization
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects at a time while paying strict attention to detail
  • Ability to lead and manage internal account teams, assisting with communication campaigns, data maintenance and payments systems
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate challenges and deliver client-focused solutions based on customer needs
  • Experience working for non-profits is a plus
  • Membership in a Greek social organization preferred
