As the Senior Director of WGS Platform, you will spearhead whole genome sequencing (WGS) based research and development initiatives across the Tempus therapeutic area and application portfolio. The overarching goal of this position will be to work with clinical, business, and operational stakeholders in developing and deploying a platform and services to support WGS-based testing for all Tempus application teams. This position will be accountable to the SVP, Bioinformatics in developing and executing a roadmap for WGS computational R&D. Additionally, you will be responsible for researching and proposing new areas of scientific study to the Tempus science executive teams with the goal of maximizing Tempus' impact across application areas.
This will primarily be a leadership position, however hands-on execution of projects will also be required. The ideal candidate will be able to manage and mentor a team of scientists and engineers, perform quarterly and yearly planning activities, be personally involved in performing analyses and developing bioinformatics tools, and present findings with internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Lead strategic planning and work with strategy/operations teams to roadmap quarterly initiatives and plan team activities.
- Describe and drive a strong vision for WGS-based diagnostics testing and plan the development of a core platform for applications teams.
- Collaborate with scientists and clinicians to design analyses on cancer sequencing data in order to improve quality of care.
- Lead an interdisciplinary group of scientists and engineers to translate research into clinically actionable insights for our clients.
- Communicate with outside scientific teams as well as executive leadership.
- Produce high quality and detailed documentation for all projects.
Required Experience:
- Must have completed a Ph.D. in Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, computational biology, or applied mathematics.
- 7+ years of experience post-doctorate.
- Computational skills using R, Bioconductor, and/or Python.
- Strong knowledge of high performance computing.
Ideal candidates will possess:
- Experience in cancer genetics, functional genomics, hereditary disease, immunology, or molecular biology.
- Leadership experience in NGS pipeline development in a clinical setting.
- Self-driven and works well in interdisciplinary teams.
- Experience leading a team of scientists and software engineers.
- Experience with communicating insights and presenting concepts to a diverse audience.
- Experience with regulated medical device development.
