Niantic’s San Francisco Game Studio seeks a Senior Game Designer to help craft and maintain the in-game systems that will drive the core of the game. We are looking for someone who is analytical and metric driven but understands the experiential aspects of mobile F2P games.
Niantic Design works with some of the world's most advanced AR technologies to design visually innovative, ground-breaking mobile experiences for tens of millions of users worldwide, encouraging discovery, exercise, and meaningful social experiences.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with our creative team and the dev team to implement game features and content.
- Find opportunities for improving new and existing game systems, content, and features.
- Communicate game system concepts, implementation details, processes, and risks.
- Create, review, and revise game design documents.
- Test and tune game progression and economy balance throughout the product life-cycle using spreadsheets and game engine software.
- Build, run, and maintain live events.
- Collaborate with cross-functional team members and stakeholders to cultivate strong working relationships with project team members, including regular and reliable attendance and participation in meetings.
Qualifications
- 5+ years designing digital games with at least 2 years on mobile live games.
- Experience with game balance and pacing in a free-to-play economic model.
- Experience with version control software such as GitLab, Perforce, SourceTree or Fork.
- Knowledge of Unity game development.
- Adept at creating and maintaining elegant system spreadsheets.
- Experience with rapid iteration and deployment of game data updates.
- Experience with business intelligence and A/B testing.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced hybrid environment and handle stress appropriately and/or ability to solve practical problems and be sufficiently adaptable to handle dynamic situations with little advance notice.
- Experience working on cross-functional teams with ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal communications, including synchronous interactions with others.

The total compensation package for this position includes a new hire offer base salary range of $142,000 - $165,900 + bonus + equity + benefits.
Individual pay within this salary range is determined by work location and additional factors, including assessed job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
