Reporting to the Chief People Officer, the Senior Director, Total Rewards is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing the organization's compensation and benefits strategies to attract, retain, and motivate employees. This role is critical in shaping the employee experience, fostering engagement and retention, and ultimately contributing to the organization's success.

This is a hybrid role, with a requirement of two days per week in office. We prefer that this role work out of our San Francisco, CA office, but will consider Palo Alto, CA, Sunnyvale, CA and Bellevue, WA.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning: Develop comprehensive total rewards strategies aligned with the organization's objectives and culture.
  • Compensation: Design competitive compensation structures, including base pay, bonuses, incentives, and equity programs. Develop and manage executive compensation programs, ensuring alignment with business goals and shareholder interests.
  • Benefits Administration: Oversee the administration of employee benefits programs, such as health insurance, retirement plans, wellness initiatives, and other perks. Evaluate benefits offerings regularly to ensure competitiveness and cost-effectiveness. Negotiate contracts, monitor service levels, and ensure vendors deliver value for the organization.
  • Performance Management: Collaborate with HR and management teams to link compensation and benefits to performance metrics and organizational goals. Develop performance-based reward systems to recognize and incentivize high performers.
  • Market Research and Benchmarking: Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes related to compensation and benefits. Conduct regular benchmarking studies to ensure the organization remains competitive in the market.
  • Employee Communication and Education: Develop effective communication strategies to educate employees about the organization's total rewards offerings, including the value of their compensation and benefits packages.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Utilize data analytics to assess the effectiveness of total rewards programs and identify areas for improvement. Prepare regular reports for senior management on key metrics, trends, and insights related to compensation and benefits.
  • Change Management: Lead change initiatives related to total rewards programs, such as organizational restructurings or changes in business strategy. Ensure a smooth transition for employees and alignment with the organization's overall vision.
  • Leadership and Team Development: Provide leadership and guidance to the total rewards team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Develop talent within the team and support their professional growth and development.
  • Relationships: Build trusting relationships with team mates, leaders and employees. Collaborate on key initiatives, driving high performance and meaningful programs for the business.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure total rewards programs comply with relevant labor laws and regulations. Mitigate risks associated with compensation and benefits practices.

Qualifications

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
  • 10+ years experience within HR with an expertise in Compensation & Benefits.
  • 5+ years experience leading Total Rewards at the strategic level.
  • 3+ years working with Board level Compensation Committees.
  • Strong leadership and management skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation is critical for this role, as it involves making data-driven decisions regarding compensation, benefits, and rewards programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary for effectively communicating total rewards programs to employees, senior leadership, and external stakeholders.
  • The ability to think strategically and align total rewards programs with business objectives is essential for success in this role.
  • A thorough understanding of relevant labor laws, regulations, and compliance requirements related to compensation and benefits is necessary to ensure the organization remains in legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Familiarity with industry trends, benchmarks, and best practices in total rewards management is important for designing competitive and innovative rewards programs.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced hybrid environment and handle stress appropriately and/or ability to solve practical problems and be sufficiently adaptable to handle dynamic situations with little advance notice.

The total compensation package for this position includes a new hire offer base salary range of $258,200 - $302,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.

Individual pay within this salary range is determined by work location and additional factors, including assessed job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
