The Instructional Designer (Courseware Service Center) will work on exciting online learning solutions (courses, videos, games, simulations, and assessments) for KnowBe4’s customers. As a creative instructional designer, you will bring new ideas to the table and deliver innovative learning activities to the LMS.

Responsibilities:

  • Work together with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and the entire team (graphics, QA specialists, eLearning developers, and leadership) to help build and integrate eLearning assets
  • Collaborate with all publishing teams in the Courseware sector
  • Contribute to a highly collaborative environment where teams rapidly release courseware
  • Embrace innovation and focus on minimizing distractions to maintain high productivity 
  • Create initial planning documents for online learning solutions (courses, videos, games, simulations, and assessments) to integrate with the Learning Management System (LMS) in an agile development environment
  • Implement online andragogy, instructional design, and adult learning principles
  • Practice effective interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work with different publishing teams within the courseware sector, to build relationships, actively listen, and assist team members and/or Subject Matter Experts (SME) in translating concepts into engaging, effective online courses
  • Develop storyboards in a standard format and respond promptly to feedback from QA and leadership
  • Develop sound knowledge checks for formative assessment as well as strong summative assessments 
  • Understand reasonable software security practices
  • Possess effective communication skills: written (including editing and proofreading), verbal, and presentation (including visuals)
  • Possess the ability and experience to effectively utilize the required technology tools (MS Word, Gmail)

Requirements:

  • B.A. or B.S in Adult Education, Cybersecurity, Information Technology (or comparable work experience) required
  • M.S. or M.A. or M.Ed. in Instructional Design or Instructional Technology (or comparable work experience) preferred
  • Minimum 5 years experience with the instructional design best practices (storyboard development for online)
  • Minimum 5 years experience with creating complex assessment items for formative and summative purposes
  • Minimum 5 years experience with making engaging and interesting online courseware (preferably in a corporate environment)  
  • Experience with Web Accessibility Standards (Section 508 & WCAG 2.1)
  • Experience with learning solutions for iOS, iBooks, Android, and other interactive media/mobile platforms and programming
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in learning/online learning
  • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new tools, techniques, and processes
  • Strong listening skills for working with subject matter experts (SMEs) and team members to incorporate their ideas and feedback
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, particularly in designing effective courseware for adult learners in a distracting environment
  • Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Excellent time and priority management skills
  • Effective self-editing skills (although you will work with a QA team)
  • Familiarity with and interest in current communications and
    visual design principles as they apply to adult learners
  • Understanding of gamification concepts and ability to employ them in online learning
  • General understanding of UI/UX accessibility needs for adult learners
  • Curious, innovative, and creative mindset
  • Understanding the concepts of gamification and ability to create and employ them in online learning
  • Ability to write assessment and knowledge check questions to reinforce learning and ensure retention/ application of learned material
