We are looking for a Food Safety Manager, Core to join our Regulatory Compliance team based in London. The successful candidate will play a critical role in helping the business manage its risk in relation to food safety compliance across 10 markets in a rapidly evolving industry.
You will report to the Head of Ethics, Compliance & Insurance and be overseen on a day-to-day basis by the Deputy Head of Food Safety and Regulatory Compliance. You will also work closely with other senior stakeholders across Legal, Policy, Product, Care and Operations to put in place the right compliance policies and risk mitigation measures for various business initiatives. This role will support our ‘Core’ food delivery business covering restaurants and grocery partners, ranging from global brands to small, independent local gems.
You will provide pragmatic, risk-based solutions to enable the business to pursue its commercial objectives in a responsible and compliant manner. You'll have a passion for using data to spot emerging risks, insights and trends that we can leverage to innovate and improve our programme. This is a unique opportunity to work in an exciting global business, headquartered in London, and play a critical role in shaping and delivering its Food Safety strategy.
This role is based out of our London office; you will need to be on-site 3 days a week.
What you'll do:
- Build relationships of trust to collaborate with stakeholders across our business. That means partnering with our business to unlock opportunities and work side-by-side with them to manage food safety risk along the way.
- Focus on metrics that allow us to monitor trends and patterns across compliance processes to help detect and remediate issues, and continuously improve our food safety compliance programme.
- Support the maintenance and development of our partner and rider-facing policies, processes, guidance and other measures as necessary to mitigate business risks.
- Consistently provide high-quality, risk-based advice on food safety matters in a complex and ever-evolving regulatory environment.
- Support our food safety compliance due diligence processes across multiple markets - including with respect to individual partners - and identify and develop creative solutions to help the business manage food safety compliance.
- Work as part of an incredible supportive, collegiate and collaborative team to deliver our shared compliance vision and strategy.
- Embrace opportunities to develop and hone your leadership skills.
Your daily and monthly responsibilities will include:
- Risk assessment and mitigation: work within our existing risk assessments, gap analysis and control maturity assessments, using the output to measure progress, increase the effectiveness of our controls and drive forwards any plan to remediate identified weaknesses.
- Risk monitoring: support the implementation and maintenance of systems to monitor adherence to policies & processes, alongside ensuring measures to mitigate identified risks remain effective.
- Monitor trends for continuous improvement opportunities: identify any trends through partner and customer feedback to use for the purpose of improving policies, processes and risk management.
- Policies and processes: support the development and maintenance of our robust food safety policies and implement best practice protocols across our three-sided marketplace of riders, partners and consumers.
- Legislative/regulatory horizon scanning: work closely with the Legal and Policy teams to ensure that the business stays ahead of local, national and international laws concerning the on-demand food delivery industry.
- Collaborating with our in-house Legal colleagues: work alongside our in-house Legal colleagues to understand different legislative and regulatory requirements across our markets and ensure our food safety compliance strategy compliments our broader legal and compliance strategies.
- Product development support: work with the Product, Tech and Marketing teams, as needed, to review and advise on new product features, menu re-designs, marketing promotions and other consumer-facing features.
- Regulatory requests & investigation support: serve as a contact with our UK Primary Authority on food safety matters and support the Deputy Head of Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance in dealing with any information requests from regulatory authorities.
- Recalls: support the product recall process with respect to restaurants and grocers and provide guidance to the business on execution.
- Training & culture: promote a culture of food safety across the business; develop and deliver internal training for the wider business teams on key food safety compliance issues and developments.
What do you need to bring to the table?
- 5+ years experience with food safety compliance as well as a formal food safety qualification. But be prepared to bring that experience to bear in new ways.
- Experience of managing food safety risks across multiple food product categories and, ideally, multiple countries. Working within the demands of a high care business would be a plus.
- Experience working with technical/product development teams, solving problems in a collaborative and scalable manner.
- Good knowledge of UK and EU food safety regulatory frameworks - knowledge of regulatory frameworks in Deliveroo’s markets outside of the EU is a plus.
- Experience of promoting food safety across businesses, identifying compliance trends through the creative use of data and taking those insights to improve policies/procedures that address food safety risks.
