Program/Contract Specific Information
We design assessments for clients to support their internal hiring process. Questions are focused on a variety of topics related to fields such as data analysis, financial modeling, and trading algorithms. These assessments are designed for individuals who are experts in the field of mathematics, statistics, economics, finance, or data science. The Assessment Writer will design questions with this goal in mind, ensuring the client’s candidates will be tested on their skills to employ techniques from diverse branches of applied mathematics and statistics.
This is a contract, part-time, as-needed position that involves providing support throughout the year. Hours may vary based on project demands and operational needs. You can anticipate 5-15 hours of work per week during active projects. There will be cycles of heavy work, with cycles of downtime while your work is reviewed.
A day in the life (task and responsibilities)
- Create assessment questions encompassing various question types and difficulty levels that are reflective of the given Mathematical and Statistical concepts and their practical applications in professional financial and trading settings.
- Responsible for ensuring the assessment can be used as a tool to evaluate the job candidates’ skills, knowledge, and abilities. Assessment results should indicate a candidate’s ability to succeed in the job.
- Provide detailed, step-by-step solutions for each question, ensuring candidates can follow the reasoning and understand the problem-solving process.
- Ensure all your questions are:
- Accurate: Factually correct and logically sound
- Clear: Easy to understand and free of ambiguity
- Open to Multiple Solutions: Allow different valid approaches
- Appropriately Challenging: Match the intended difficulty level
- Job-Relevant: Directly tied to required skills and knowledge
- Grammatically Correct: Free of errors or awkward phrasing
- Balanced in Answer Choices: Provide plausible, distinct distractors
- Conceptually Focused: Effectively test key concepts
- Clear in Assumptions: Explicitly state necessary assumptions
- Defined: Key terms and concepts are clearly explained
- Inclusive: Fair and free of bias
- Iteratively refine assessments based on constructive feedback, ensuring a continuous improvement cycle and maintaining a high standard of quality and relevance.
- Uphold exceptional communication throughout the duration of the project, providing regular updates on your work.
Your expertise (qualifications)
- Master’s or higher degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field
- [preferred] Over 3 years of industry experience in the quantitative trading, quantitative research, or finance sector in a data-oriented role, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the respective industry's operations and challenges.
- 2 years of assessment writing experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Passion for applying data-driven approaches to real-world problems
- Ability to work independently and adhere to deadlines
- Proficiency in one (or both) of the following domains:

Where you are
- This role is remote and can be located anywhere that is compatible with the EST time zone. We are headquartered in New York City and have office space in Midtown Manhattan.
Compensation
- Compensation varies depending on the type and complexity of the question.
- An estimated flat rate per question is $50-100.
- Payments are processed upon client approval.
