Clariti’s government software helps North America’s largest and fastest growing communities deliver exceptional community development, permitting, and licensing experiences online. Every day, our solutions help governments approve more permits for new homes, business licenses for entrepreneurs, and professional licenses for essential workers.

Reporting to the Manager, Technical Writing, the Senior Technical Writer will create, enhance, and maintain documentation for our product suite as well as drive quality for our documentation sets. We work in a highly collaborative agile environment, and this role will be a key participant in several different initiatives across the company. As a Senior Technical Writer, you will operate as an individual contributor within our Product technical writing team, creating clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation. This role will also participate in collaborative, documentation activities, and work closely with the Manager, Technical Writing as well as cross-functional teams such as Product Management, Engineering, Customer Support, and Enablement to ensure best-in-class user documentation throughout our solutions.

What will you work on?

  • Collaborate closely with product managers and customer support to gather information and ensure accuracy and completeness of best-in-class documentation
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for Clariti software products including user guides, release notes, API documentation, online help
  • Track and report on the progress of documentation developments
  • Collaborate with the Manager, Technical Writing and the documentation team to develop a scalable documentation strategy
  • Create and manage content that is consistent with Clariti's style guidelines & best practices and work closely with content contributors, providing guidance and suggestions to authors in accordance with established templates and best practices
  • Work with Product Managers to ensure corporate style/tone, proper grammar, and consistent flow and organization are incorporated into end-user documentation
  • Conduct research and gather feedback to continuously improve documentation quality and usability
  • Determine the need for end-user documentation by gathering usability feedback from internal & external customers and stakeholders
  • Assist with documentation site restructuring and migration to a new site
  • Develop and maintain a documentation library to ensure all content is up-to-date and easily accessible, including performing ongoing content audits and documentation reviews with the team
  • Support other technical writing team members, as required
  • Work with the Manager, Technical Writing to identify the documentation priorities
  • Strive to become a subject matter expert on Clariti's products
  • Manage own product documentation release timelines
  • Perform duties as scrum master for the Documentation Scrum, including some scrum ceremonies as required
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in technical writing and documentation
  • Perform other related duties as required

What you bring to the team?

  • 6+ years of related experience in technical writing, preferably in SaaS or software development
  • Proven experience with creating various types of software documentation including user manuals, API documentation, and online help systems
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • Strong understanding of complex technical concepts and the ability to translate into clear, concise, user-friendly content to engage and educate users
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail
  • Experience defining templates, writing guidelines, and following content development workflow practices
  • Expertise with authoring tools (such as, MadCap Flare, Document 360), graphic design software (Photoshop, Visio, Adobe Illustrator), web content publishing (Madcap Central, Adobe) are a plus as is experience with video and audio software
  • Experience with Agile is important, having acted as a scrum master is a plus
  • Experience with a variety of software development methodologies and project management tools, including Atlassian, Google, and Microsoft Product suites
  • Experience writing materials aimed at users and administrators
  • Experience with HTML/CSS
  • Ability to be flexible and manage change, while balancing competing priorities
  • Empathy for customer feedback, while understanding the importance of a long-term product vision
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication, superb critical listening skills
  • Experience working in a technical role in a software environment (e.g., QA, developer, technical support) is a plus
  • Experience using AI as an aid to create and improve content is a plus

The initial salary range for this role is expected to be between $70-95k annually. Our compensation bands are based on various factors, including the labour market (as informed by our business stage and industry), job type and job level. Exact salary offers will be determined by factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills.
