The Training Captain is responsible for the oversight of the simulator and flight training device pilot training and the development and implementation of policies and procedures that ensure successful, smooth, and safe operation of the department.

**This position is based in Salt Lake City, Utah**

Here’s what you’ll do

  • Develop the Flight Crew Training Manual (FCTM)
  • Ensure objectivity is maintained in the training and evaluation program, and that instructors, evaluators and line check pilots are permitted to perform assigned activities without inappropriate interference from management and/or external organizations
  • Has authority over the pilot training, qualifications, and recency of experience process, including process quality, establishing, and modifying policies, procedures, instructions, and disseminating information regarding its administration
  • Ensure training and qualification requirements of 14 CFR Part 121 Subparts N and O are met
  • Ensure pilots possess the certificates required for their assigned crew position
    Liaison between the Training Department, other departments and contract training facilities and
    instructors
  • Ensure pilots can competently perform their assigned duties before they are authorized to enter revenue service
  • Ensure pilots are qualified and periodically evaluated to ensure compliance with required performance standards
  • Ensure an adequate number of instructors and check pilots are available to accomplish all training and checking tasks
  • Ensure all course materials, training facilities and flight training devices are current, properly certified and periodically reviewed for compliance with all regulatory requirements
  • Ensure all required audits are accomplished and records of such audits are kept in a location readily accessible for review
  • Keep training department team members and other persons used in the Flight Training Department informed of the provisions and mandatory compliance of the OpSpecs including clearly identified excerpts, references, mandatory compliance requirements, and other information that will keep pilots informed of the impact on their duties and responsibilities.
  • Direct and coordinate Flight Operations training activities
  • Develop and produce flight simulator and ground training for each type aircraft
  • Develop new/advanced training systems to allow pilots to more productively, safely and effectively perform their responsibilities within the Company and the FAA regulatory system
  • Direct long-term planning (3-5 years) for required training equipment and training programs
  • Direct and plan development of computer-based training equipment and teaching technologies
  • Direct and control negotiations, contract and financial performance/compliance, specification and manufacturing or producing/developing activities related to training curriculum and training service
  • Assist with flight instructor hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision

Here’s how you’ll be successful

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Unrestricted Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with airplane category and multiengine class ratings
  • 1,500 hours total flight time in aircraft (including turbine helicopter, but excluding simulator and Flight Engineer)
  • 500 hours in fixed wing airplanes
  • One (1) year as an instructor or check airman in a certificate holder’s approved program OR one (1) year as Pilot in Command or Second in Command in a turbojet aircraft
  • Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and the ability to use bowsers effectively including iOS
  • Must pass a DOT pre-employment drug test
  • Must pass a TSA required fingerprint-based criminal history records check and a Breeze background check
  • Excellent communication skills

  • Knowledge of basic computer and electronic tablet devices
  • Able to read and comprehend guidance as found in required manuals
  • Strong presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • FAA Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with Airbus A220 type rating
  • Check Airman or Simulator Instructor experience in turbojet aircraft
