As the Director, People & Culture, you will manage a team of high-performing HR professionals and play a crucial role in managing and evolving our HR approaches. Top priority includes developing best practices, processes and policies that help individuals, teams, and the organization to thrive. You will have accountability for HR policies and procedures, employment law compliance, benefits administration and systems optimization. Reporting to the VP of People & Culture, you will serve as a hands-on team member with the ability to flex from strategic to tactical while developing and implementing strategies and procedures that align with our organization's goals and objectives. People Strategy:

  • Develop, communicate and ensure adoption of effective HR practices and policies 
  • Stay abreast of HR trends, best practices and requirements, adapting strategies and initiatives to maintain a competitive edge in attracting and retaining talent
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the People & Culture team (i.e. Talent Acquisition, Employee Experience etc) on strategic initiatives

Policies and Compliance:

  • Own the development delivery, effectiveness, and continuous evolution of HR procedures and policies while maintaining compliance with and staying abreast of federal, state, and local employment laws across the US
  • Oversee submission of any required reporting/tracking in accordance with federal guidelines and US employment standards

People Operations:

  • Drive the evolution and implementation of systems and processes that support the employee lifecycle to ensure they are optimized and enable us to work efficiently and effectively
  • Oversee and enhance approaches to employee questions and requests, ensuring efficiency and providing a strong employee experience
  • Lead process improvements regarding employee transition administration and record keeping (i.e. new hires, transfers, exits etc), ensuring strong data integrity and accurate report generation

Benefits & Compensation:

  • Assess and evolve benefits strategy ensuring competitiveness, cost optimization and alignment with industry standards
  • Manage relationships and regular reporting with benefits providers (PEO, brokers, etc) and oversee resolution of enrollment issues to ensure timely and accurate administration
  • Update and maintain benefit communications and toolkits, including intranet content and employee facing education materials
  • In partnership with global partners, assist with the administration of Compensation and Total Rewards

Performance Management:

  • Enable the US execution of the performance management process (including communications, training, calibration/ talent review sessions, employee development plans, and promotions)
  • Support the design and implementation of competencies and career ladders across US business, ensuring global alignment
  • Analyze performance data and themes and make business recommendations that achieve operational and strategic objectives

 Employee relations:

  • Provide expert counsel and thought leadership to People Partners and Legal/Finance colleagues on sensitive employee relations matters
  • Serve as escalation point for ER matters including complex and/or highly sensitive issues and investigations

Team Leadership & Collaboration:

  • Lead and mentor a  team of people professionals, providing guidance, coaching, and career counsel 
  • Collaborate with key partners across all People & Culture centers of excellence to ensure a holistic, employee-centric approach
  • If local to Manhattan, the role will be considered hybrid and 2-3 days onsite with your team will be required

What you'll bring to the team

  • 12+ years of progressive HR experience in areas of Employee Relations, HR operations, benefits administration, and employment regulations (including 3+ years in a management capacity overseeing a team of 4+)
  • Strong HR functional expertise with expert knowledge of US employment laws and regulations, policy creation, and process development
  • Strong leadership and team management skills and a passion for development
  • Excellent communication and influence skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong business acumen to provide solutions that demonstrate creative problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Able to successfully manage multiple priorities simultaneously with ability to adjust as needed to align with business pivots
  • Strong orientation around driving results in a fast paced environment
  • Track record record of leveraging data to drive sound decisions
  • Self-directed, yet effective working part of a collaborative global team
  • Intermediate-Advanced proficiency in HR systems and Microsoft Office/G- Suite tools including MS Excel /Google Sheets (formulas, reports, pivot tables), PowerPoint/Google Slides.
  • HR certification and experience working in a remote environment a plus

The Pay Range for this position: $180,000- $185,000 USD based on the industry benchmark for position, function, level and Zip's compensation strategies. However, actual base salary will depend on varying circumstances and individualized factors, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. 

Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
