Vay has developed an alternative approach to autonomous driving called teledriving (remote driving) - to solve transportation in metropolitan areas.

Vay is the first company that has driven a car on European public roads with no one inside. Vay is the leading teledriving company setting the global standard for remotely driven vehicles. Vay aims to launch a safe, affordable, and sustainable door-to-door mobility service in the US, Germany and beyond. With its first service, Vay plans to remotely deliver and return electric cars for its customers.

Note- This role is based in Berlin and will require relocation, we do offer a relocation package to support this.

As Automotive Quality and Production Engineer (EU) you will be responsible to ensure the products and services of Vay consistently and efficiently meet the expectations of customers and stakeholders. 

Working very closely with our engineering, integration, bring up and maintenance teams, your role will be crucial to ensure continuous improvement of Vay product quality and process quality, contributing to transitioning our tele-driving system prototypes into scalable production configurations.

Your expertise and commitment will bridge the gap between vehicles and tele-stations fleet engineering and readiness, ensuring our innovative solutions are ready for market deployment and guaranteeing the highest customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities:

Product / Process Quality

  • Ownership of product and process quality topics
  • Design and reporting quality KPIs during new products introduction, manufacturing & fleet service
  • Real-time point of contact for technicians on fleet issues 
  • Root cause analysis of complex issues from:
    • Parts incoming inspections (supply issues, working with procurement and warehouse)
    • Fleet bring-up and service (production issues, working with technicians)
    • Fleet commercial operations (field issues, working with commercial or testing operations teams)
  • Develop systems, methodologies, processes and best practices to guarantee high-quality products in line with requirements
  • Ensure appropriate Quality Check Points (QCPs) are defined, executed and documented in warehouse and production
  • Improve supplier’s quality capability and performance
  • Implement lessons learned to new project requirements

Production Quality

  • Bring up documentation and readiness:
    • Bring-up guidelines and checklists
    • Components traceability
    • Rework guidelines, traceability and releases
    • Troubleshooting guides for technicians to use as faults are diagnosed and resolved
  • Definition of vehicle assembly/ production flow
  • Process audits and dynamic checklists for bring up and maintenance and continuous process improvements
  • Definition of  technical documentation and processes  for fleet service requests through a cross-functional review and approval process

The profile:

  • 5+ years of experience in the automotive sector in a quality or production engineering role

Technical skills:

  • Analytical reporting
  • Product quality and root cause analysis methods
  • Product and process auditing
  • Automotive quality standards (e.G. ISO/TS 16949; IATF 16949)
  • Process improvement (Lean Manufacturing; Six Sigma; Statistical Process Control)
  • Production planning tools, manufacturing processes and quality control techniques
  • FMEAs, control plans and work instructions
  • Manufacturing processes such as stamping, welding, painting and general assembly (nice to have)
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (nice to have)
  • (preferred) AV experience

Soft skills:

  • Proactive and highly driven in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Analytical thinking: Diagnose issues, improve processes and develop quality methodologies
  • Problem solving: Proactive and innovative approach to solving complex technical issues
  • Clean communication and teamwork

Qualifications:

  • (Preferred) Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Engineering, or a related field
  • (Preferred) ISO/TS 16949 and/or IATF 16949 qualification

Travel Requirements:

  • Availability to frequently travel on-demand and on short notice to the US or other countries for short periods of time
  • (nice to have) US citizen / no VISA requirements
