The Technical Sales Manager, Synthetic Biology and Biopharma, will establish Twist's market presence in Japan, focusing on Oligo Pools, Multiplexed Gene Fragments, DNA Variant Libraries, and antibody discovery and optimization services. Their responsibilities include developing strategic goals, building customer relationships, identifying business opportunities, providing deep technical insight, negotiating and closing deals, and staying informed on market conditions. They will collaborate with internal teams (sales, marketing, technical, product management, project management, and legal) to maximize revenue opportunities for Twist Bioscience in Japan.

Reporting to the Director of Business Development, Biopharma, the Technical Sales Manager will lead efforts to create and grow partnerships with pharmaceutical, biotech, and academic organizations. Their focus will be on implementing Twist’s Oligo Pool, Multiplexed Gene Fragments, and Library technologies in antibody/protein engineering, high-throughput CRISPR, and MPRA screenings. They will also oversee the implementation of Biopharma products and services for antibody discovery and optimization, as well as non-antibody therapeutics and engineered proteins.

Additionally, the Technical Sales Manager will work closely with the Business Development Manager to provide high-level technical insight into the portfolio to enable opportunity progression, to help establish and finalize commercial contracts with customers and partners. During the development and early commercialization phases, they will manage and maintain commercial alliances with both internal Twist resources and external pharma/biotech stakeholders.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Work with the Japanese synthetic biology team to help prospect and generate leads of potential customers, collaborators, and partners that will generate revenues from Oligo Pools/Multiplexed Gene Fragment/Library and Biopharma services
  • Work with the Japanese synthetic biology team to help generate, drive, and secure a continuous deal flow of Oligo Pools/Multiplexed Gene Fragment/Library and Biopharma services with collaborators and partners that will lead to high-value commercial agreements.
  • Be the primary lead to solicit and pitch Twist Synthetic Biology and Biopharma capabilities (presentations), competencies, and offerings to strategically important potential new collaborators and partners
  • Work closely with the Business Development team to negotiate and close sales opportunities and establish collaboration and partnership contracts, conduct due diligence and drive deal process to execution of contracts and other related business agreements
  • Support, maintain and grow current and newly entered customer relationships, collaborations and partnerships in an alliance management role to foster satisfied, customer-focused development and/or commercial partnerships
  • Develop strong working relationships with subject matter experts throughout Twist and assign and coordinate tasks to more qualified co-workers involved in the pursuit of each opportunity.
  • Collect and analyze market and financial data to establish and present compelling business cases for collaboration and partnerships
  • Develop market research to identify potential customers, collaborators and partnerships with pharmaceutical, biotech and related industry organizations and companies of a non-competitive business.
  • Develop and maintain a roadmap of all potential customer, collaborator and partnerships to maintain a healthy, growing and diversified revenue pipeline
  • Understand and effectively engage a wide range of internal and external resources including Legal, IP, Finance, R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Operations, Sales & Marketing, in order to develop and maintain effective customer-related, collaborations and partnerships for libraries and antibody development solutions.
  • Oversee the creation of a wide variety of customized sales tools and marketing collateral to use with prospective customers (most commonly written proposals, RFP responses and technical presentations.)
  • Build and nurture relationships with stakeholders and customers to better understand their strategic direction and perspectives
  • Local and regional travel (50% time) to work in the field with Sales, attend meetings with key customers and participate in trade shows.
  • Network with customers and provide feedback to Marketing on customer requirements for new applications or products.
  • Follow regulatory and ISO 13485 requirements

What You’ll Bring to the Team

  • Advanced degree or 5+ years of experience in antibody development or a related scientific field
  • 3+ years of commercial success in pharmaceutical, biotech, or protein engineering sectors
  • Proven track record in sales, partnerships, or licensing for the discovery and development of biologics, including antibodies, mRNAs, and cell and gene therapy
  • Experience in global/regional sales, marketing, business development, or project management involving gene mutant libraries or antibody discovery services
  • In-depth knowledge of various high-throughput screening techniques and their applications, including CRISPR screens, MRNA screens, and protein and antibody engineering
  • Expertise in developing customer relationships and opportunities with KOLs in the academic and biotech/biopharma industries
  • Highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, and effective in a collaborative team environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
