Twist is seeking a Staff Visual Designer to join our internal creative team. You’ll be a key contributor to Twist’s creative approach to branding, campaigns, content, events and more. The right candidate will work closely with our wider marketing team to create inventive conceptual, visual and messaging solutions, based on briefs, that simplify complex scientific products and processes, then translate them into compelling consumer-facing collateral. This will include digital ads, print ads, presentations, social media, branding systems, sales promotions, outdoor advertising, ebooks, event design and collateral, web page designs, swag designs and much more. 

You’ll help to create a vision and direction for the internal design team, as well as external agencies and production partners. You’lll advocate for the design team and our work. You’ll work with key executives and company leadership to get that work done. You’ll mentor others in their work. You’ll have a key voice in the evolution of the Twist brand and approach to creative marketing.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Create compelling design concepts, illustrations, icons, data visualizations and artwork.
  • Contribute to the visual identity and branding of Twist and our products.
  • Participate in briefing and brainstorming sessions. 
  • Revise your work based on feedback from collaborators.
  • Build compelling decks that explain your ideas, then help present them to peers and leadership persuasively.
  • Contribute to design projects with minimal oversight, delivering projects on time and to the highest standards. Collaborate positively with key stakeholders, project management, and company leadership.
  • Mentor team members, fostering growth and development. Contribute dynamically to Twist’s creative standards and approach.
  • Use digital management and asset tools like Frontify and Airtable to keep projects on track.
  • Bring new creative and marketing  inspiration to the team and company. Advocate for creative and design excellence internally.
  • Understand and advocate for the Twist brand and our customers.
  • Educate yourself on our products, market, competitors, and customers. While it’s not necessary to hold a scientific degree or training, deep curiosity and passion for science, scientists and technology is a must.

What You'll Bring to the team:

  • A creative thinker and maker with 8 or more years of proven experience in marketing design, advertising, or branding, with an online portfolio showcasing your work.
  • Expertise in design, typography, photography, illustration, and color.
  • Able to understand, align to, and creatively evolve brand guidelines.
  • Proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite, in particular, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustratrator.. Familiar with Google Suite and MS Office Suite. Familiar with best practices in design production. Comfort with Figma.
  • Passionate about design, creativity, branding and advertising.
  • Able to work on multiple projects at once. Conscientious about deadlines, process and communication.
  • A team player who works well with cross-functional teams.
  • Some experience managing others. 
  • Experience working with external production partners–photographers, film production companies, etc.
  • Open to feedback, willing to think innovatively and collaboratively to solve problems.
  • Able to work resourcefully and inventively when faced with some ambiguity, tight budgets, and tight timelines.

Nice to haves

  • Motion graphic, video editing and animation experience.
  • Experience working with digital asset management and project management software.
  • Previous experience working with technology or biotech brands.

The base cash compensation for this California-based role is below. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for bonus, equity, and a generous benefits package. Final compensation amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate skill, experience, expertise, and location and may vary from the amount listed above. Compensation may be different in other locations.
