The Company

SPAN invented the smart electric panel. We transformed a century-old appliance into an intelligent device that can sense and control the sources and uses of electricity in your home. This makes going solar simpler, adding battery-based backup more valuable, gas appliances dispensable, EV fast-charging possible, appliance breakdowns preventable and generally makes people care about the energy that powers their home.

SPAN was founded by Tesla’s former head of energy products, the team that created and deployed the Tesla Powerwall, the world’s first mass-market and still most popular home battery.

The Role

SPAN is hiring a Director of Platform Products & Grid Services reporting to the VP of Product to lead development of our platform and connected services product offerings. This new category of platform products will integrate and manage our fleet of SPAN-enabled homes with cloud-based solutions to enable behind the meter distributed energy programs and grid services for SPAN and our partners.

In this role, you will develop the product strategy from scratch, create the roadmap, and drive execution from requirements to launch and iteration working cross-functionally within SPAN and with our commercial partners. You will create a vision to rally the team behind, establish innovative feature sets informed by customer research, technical due diligence, and honed industry intuition to deliver loveable programs that enable SPAN homes to interact with their home energy assets (batteries, solar) and participate in grid programs. You will be a leader amongst the product org and be expected to demonstrate and teach product best practices, amplifying your impact by building scalable product mechanisms, instilling product culture, and mentoring others.

You are equally comfortable driving product strategy conversations as you are grooming backlogs, writing requirements, and mocking user flows. You are confident technically and not afraid to challenge system architectural decisions or dive deep into the technical trade-offs.

This position is a unique opportunity to join on the ground floor of a team that seeks to invent how SPAN-enabled homes can help homeowners earn money, save money, and decarbonize the environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the vision, strategy, and roadmaps for SPAN cloud-connected services and APIs

  • Own and drive implementation and delivery of a suite of new platform products for SPAN

  • Identify, size, and shape new opportunities to solve problems for SPAN panel owners; Influence investment decisions that will provide long-term innovation in the distributed energy assets space.

  • Build, optimize and scale a differentiated connected experience for SPAN homeowners and SPAN asset managers based on consumer trends, product usage data, competitive insights and your expert knowledge of needs and value drivers in the residential energy ecosystem.

  • Guide the development of product and solution requirements, working backward from the customer.

  • Communicate product strategy and status to key stakeholders across SPAN.

  • Lead cross-functionally with Engineering, Program Management, Revenue and other key stakeholder teams to deliver projects on your roadmap while cultivating and maintaining a positive, inclusive, and upbeat culture that brings out the best in people.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
