Every year, Reddit hosts the world’s largest online gift exchanges which helps to connect fellow Redditors around the world in a meaningful way. Over a million gifts are exchanged by 900k+ people in 225 countries. The Gifts team is responsible for building and evolving the platform for these exchanges, figuring out new ways to engage people and increase the number of human connections Redditors make along the way.

The Gifts team is looking to hire a Senior engineer to build new web experiences for hundreds of millions of users around the world. This is a unique opportunity to leave your mark on one of the most influential and trafficked corners of the internet.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and contribute to the development of critical projects, working with and mentoring other team members.
  • Brainstorm with Product Managers, Designers and engineering team to conceptualize and build new features for our ever growing Redditors.
  • Work with engineers and architects to design and scale our systems
  • Advocate for optimized practices, tools and processes  across the engineering organization.

What we look for

  • 5+ years of experience building clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
  • Expertise in at least one backend programming language ie Python, Go, Java
  • Experience with large-scale distributed real-time systems
  • Curiosity and ability to be autonomous to figure out what's important.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with a service-oriented team.
