As Marqeta’s Manager of Business Continuity and Crisis Management,  you will be responsible for developing, maintaining and testing Marqeta’s business continuity program. The Manager of Business Continuity and Crisis Management will support all program activities necessary to enable Marqeta to manage a crisis event as well as maintain and/or rapidly recover continuity of business. This role will report directly to the Senior Director of Security Operations and Resilience.

What You'll Do

  • Design, implement, and manage a business continuity program:
    • While supporting enterprise resilience and cyber resilience, design, develop and execute enterprise-level  business continuity/crisis management plans tailored to Marqeta’s needs
    • Building and maintaining relationships with external partners, such as emergency services, vendors, and other stakeholders critical to business continuity and crisis management
    • Ongoing business continuity and crisis management vendor management that ensures up-to-date retainers and contracts 
    • Utilising a governance framework, categorise infrastructure based on the criticality of the business then use the established criticality tiers to inform recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs)
    • Collaborate with various departments to ensure business continuity/crisis management plans, playbooks, communication plans and decision-making aids are well-defined and integrated into all facets of the organisation such as data centres, critical business applications, and Marqeta products. 
    • Conduct regular business impact analysis (BIA) at the executive and business owner levels to inform RTOs and recovery sequence
    • Report on DR integration of RTO and recovery sequence recommendations
    • Align business process mapping to recovery priorities and assess/report Marqeta’s ability to respond to crisis events while maintaining/recovering critical business operations at acceptable levels of service
    • Proactively analyse and implement crisis prevention initiatives 
    • Partner with the Disaster Recovery team to lead enterprise-level business continuity and crisis management response, recovery and  training and exercises for employees to ensure the plan’s effectiveness and preparedness
    • Establishing clear communication channels and protocols for use during a disruption to maintain information flow (out-of-band comms, notifications list, etc)
    • Reviewing and updating business continuity plans regularly to reflect changing organisational needs and external environments
    • Evaluate the presence and sustainability of alternate processing capabilities for critical business services in the event the primary capability goes down or is quarantined
    • Document business process mapping (critical path documentation) for Marqeta’s most critical business processes (e.g. mapping infrastructure, data centre, applications, third parties, etc. Involved in processing)
    • Managing the response to actual disruptions, including activation of the business continuity plan, crisis communication and coordination of recovery efforts
    • Conducting post-incident reviews to analyse the effectiveness of the response and to make necessary adjustments to plans and strategies
  • Monitor and provide periodic reports to senior leadership on the status of the business continuity and crisis management program, relevant risk exposure, and any trends or significant emerging issues.
  • Create a high-performing team culture where team members are supported, standards are consistently upheld, people are treated with respect, and everyone feels a sense of belonging.

What We're Looking For

  • 6+ years experience in business continuity planning, emergency and incident planning and analysis, concepts and methodology.
  • Proven business continuity and crisis management experience in the financial services /FinTech industry.
  • Experience with EMI, SOX, ISO 27001, PCI DSS, PCI 3DS, GDPR, and CPRA.
  • Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams. Strong knowledge of business impact analysis methodologies, crisis management protocols, and regulatory requirements specific to the banking sector.
  • Expert knowledge of business continuity, crisis management, and associated regulatory requirements.
  • Analytical and problem-solving prowess, with the capacity to think critically and adapt strategies to evolving circumstances.
  • High ethical standards and a commitment to upholding confidentiality and data security.
  • Experience in executive-level reporting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to cultivate relationships across teams, influence decision-making, and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
  • BS degree preferred.
  • An advanced degree or professional certifications in Business Continuity and/or Crisis Management would be advantageous.
  • Relevant certifications (CBCP, CBCI, Certified ISO 22301 Business Continuity Manager, CMCS, CMCC).
