What's the opportunity? 🤔

Reporting to the Senior Director, Controller, the Director of Accounting will be a key leader in the Finance and Accounting organization and will manage and be responsible for the outcomes of the accounting operations. You will lead various areas within the accounting function (Month-end close, financial reporting, internal controls, etc.) and be able to work with the support of the Revenue, Finance, IT, and Legal teams.

Your technical, operational, and process improvement skills will ensure the accounting organization is equipped for our next phase of continued growth. This is a high visibility role that directly impacts Intercom’s strategic initiatives to help prepare for the next stage for the company.

We are seeking a driven, open-minded, and technically strong individual who is passionate about accounting operations and driving process improvements. This role requires excellent communication skills, strong knowledge of accounting principles including US GAAP, and the ability to manage and work with various cross-functional teams.

What will I be doing? 🚀

  • Manage our Accounting Managers and third-party accounting team responsible for the month-end close, intercompany accounting and consolidations
  • Manage transition from third-party account team to Intercom accounting function 
  • Ensure compliance for annual GAAP and statutory audits, and required compliance related filings for all domestic and international subsidiaries
  • Oversee internal and external financial reporting for audits, including statutory filings
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors to support their quarterly review and annual audit procedures.
  • Planning, organizing and coordinating the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes with accounting managers as well as collaborating with cross-functional leaders to ensure a timely and accurate close.
  • Drive and develop policies, procedures, and internal control documentation and implementation in preparation for Sarbanes-Oxley.
  • Plan and design business processes and objectives and make recommendations and changes in order to improve and support scalability and compliance of company policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership required to grow and strengthen the global Accounting team, with a commitment to recruiting, training and mentoring
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational innovation and regularly interact with business owners and senior level management on accounting matters
  • Partner with FP&A, Business Systems and other cross functional teams to Identify, design and implement improvements with respect to business processes and financial reporting

What skills do I need? 📖

  • CPA (or equivalent) with 8+ years’ experience in accounting - including  experience at a public accounting firm; multinational organization experience and SaaS industry experience strongly preferred
  • Excellent technical, analytical, and communication skills, both written and verbal, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to conduct accounting research and analyze the impact of new accounting guidance and summarize results accurately and independently.
  • Strong operational experience including responsibility managing close and other accounting functions/processes
  • Experience with a host of accounting software suites (NetSuite,, FloQast, Expensify, Workday) a huge plus.
  • First-hand experience managing and audit process (both in industry and as part of an accounting services firm)
  • Leadership and people-management skills, track record of developing and managing team
  • Ability and desire to build strong relationships with internal and external business partners
  • Excellent organizational skills, but comfortable with ambiguity
  • Execution focused and deadline driven in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to take responsibility for delivering quality work in a timely manner
  • Big picture thinker that is willing and able to dive into the details for insights and accuracy review
  • Desire and willingness to continuously grow and improve self, team, processes, and systems

  • BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Accounting
