Role Overview
Join BU Hillel as the Campus Rabbi/Senior Jewish Educator to help enrich the lives of students and shape the future of Jewish life on campus. Be part of a team of professionals dedicated to creating an excellent Hillel to provide for the needs of Boston University’s 6,000 Jewish students and serve as Jewish Chaplain for the greater Boston University community. Help set the organizational vision and strategy to inspire, educate and empower Boston University students to lead meaningful, joyous Jewish lives. You’ll use your magnetic personality and deep wells of Torah to inspire students to make Judaism and Jewish peoplehood integral to their life choices and expressed Jewish values.
What You'll Do
- Build relationships with many students from diverse backgrounds through meaningful conversations, and by creating connections to opportunities in Jewish life on campus
- Create content and manage our award-winning Jewish Learning Fellowship Program, with 15+ cohorts of 200+ students per year, to bring creative, meaningful, and relevant approaches in Jewish learning to students from a wide range of backgrounds
- Identify Jewish educational needs of students, staff, and lay leaders, and develop standalone and ongoing programs and initiatives to address those needs
- Build innovative, pluralistic approaches to Shabbat, holidays, and rituals. Organize and lead Reform and Conservative Shabbat services, Conservative High Holiday services, holiday programming and Passover Seders, and train students to lead meaningful services for their peers
- Develop and nurture relationships with BU Hillel Board members, Boston University campus personnel, religious life organizations around campus, BU faculty, parents, and Boston Jewish community partners
- Provide pastoral care services for students, BU Hillel staff, lay leaders, and parent
What You've Accomplished
- Rabbinic ordination and advanced degree in Jewish Studies or Jewish Education. 4+ years of formal study of Torah, Rabbinics, and Halachah as well as a demonstrated commitment to ongoing, regular Jewish text learning
- 5+ years of relevant work. Experience in grassroots community organizing, Hillel, youth movements, camping, or experiential Jewish education is helpful
- Proven success in community building and outreach, and previous experience in program visioning and implementation
- Extensive engagement with and experience in Israel
- Training and experience in pastoral care and counseling

- A strong, deep, and broad knowledge base of Jewish sources, ranging from traditional Jewish texts to contemporary Jewish wisdom, culture and unconventional Jewish sources
- Expertise in leading complex conversations about Judaism and Israel in a way that is approachable and meets students at various points in their personal Jewish journeys
- A commitment to creating an inclusive, vibrant, and pluralistic Jewish community
- Creative problem-solving, proactive communication, and collaboration
- Ability to collaborate across teams both inside and outside of Hillel
- Demonstrated ability to think and act strategically in order to reach goals, including proactive planning, embracing data and technology and attention to follow-through and deadlines
What You'll Receive
- Competitive salary in the non-profit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $125,000-140,000
