Role Overview

The primary purpose of this position is to help build Jewish community on campus, and coordinate with other departments on campus to facilitate partnership between sustainability initiatives and Jewish Life. The position will include educational and engagement opportunities at Dickinson Farm, an 80 acre USDA-certified organic farm operated by the college. as well as the Asbell Center for Jewish Life. These educational programs and hands-on activities will strengthen the connection between Jewish culture, sustainable agriculture, and stewardship of the land. The Engagement Associate will work with existing student groups (Nazun, Cooking Club) to develop outreach strategy, as well as working with emerging student leaders to build and strengthen Jewish communities across campus.

What You’ll Do

  • Foster relationships with Jewish students on campus and help link them to resources on campus that meet their religious and spiritual needs. Coordinate with student leaders to build community between Jewish students on campus.
  • Mentor Asbell Center student leaders to develop programming that incorporates sustainability initiatives, planning and executing one to two collaborative programs per semester. Work closely with the Dickinson Farm on planning holiday programs, menus, and other opportunities to connect Jewish Life and sustainability
  • Be a visible presence on campus, attending events, including but not limited to: sit-down meetings with prospective students and parents, Shabbat Dinner, Holiday celebrations, and educational and social programming. Represent the Asbell Center in the absence of the Director
  • Regularly scheduled hands-on work at the Dickinson Farm during the planting and harvesting seasons. Work alongside students and farm apprentices 2 days a week over the summer months.
  • Provide kitchen support to Farm Works Kitchen Manager as needed
  • Oversee media for the office including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, EngageD and Newsletter. This includes putting out media content when students are not present.
  • Oversight of the Birthright Israel program (free trip to Israel for Jewish students). etc.

  • Driver’s License preferred but not required
