Description:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Operations Director in atai’s rapidly growing Digital Product & Data function (“DPD”). DPD sits across the Strategy & Innovation and R&D areas of the company and works with atai’s underlying technology and compound companies to support the creation of digital product and pursue our data science strategy to innovate and personalize how mental health is delivered. Our current area of focus is developing our proprietary Digital Therapeutics (“DTx”) for use in combination with our drugs. Beyond this we are also looking at decentralized trial tools, clinician training and other innovative ways to bring scalable mental care to patients.

As Operations Director you will work with the broader Digital Product & Data function, as well as with other central functions of atai, to operationalize our digital product aspirations. Your focus will be supporting the delivery of our digital product in our clinical trials in a compliant and efficient manner. You will also spend your time supporting the operations of our technology platform companies from vendor management to IT systems to HR strategy and recruiting, as well as optimizing their current systems and processes. You will take the initiative to spot gaps and problems ahead of their time, and will be comfortable employing consultants where needed to plug expertise gaps.

You will be a skilled healthcare technology practitioner that is passionate about working across all areas of our technology companies and will be someone with career aspirations of one day becoming a Chief Operating Officer in a technology company.

Responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for operationalizing our Digital Product & Data aspirations

  • You will work with our platform companies and support them in deploying into our clinical trials. This will include working with atai’s clinical and regulatory functions to manage the creation, implementation and iteration of technology trial protocols, and ensuring the right resource is in the right place at the right time

  • You will liaise with atai’s regulatory function to ensure our technology companies are compliant with e.g. FDA, MHRA requirements as they deploy into clinical trials. You will also ensure they are meeting compliance requirements including HIPAA and GDPR. You will be comfortable employing consultants to plug any specialist knowledge gaps you may have

  • You will optimize operational processes and structures within our technology companies to ensure they are able to deliver on their objectives including IT systems, CRM systems and HR structures

  • You will work with atai’s legal function to support and manage vendor contracting across our technology companies

  • You will liaise with atai’s IP function to ensure our technology IP is protected

  • Across the above responsibilities you will work to an operating strategy that you will design and implement across our current and future technology companies

  • You will grow the future Digital Operations group based on specialist knowledge areas you believe are most important to fill.

Experience / Qualifications:

  • 6-8+ years working in healthcare technology

  • Previous experience as an Operations Director or Commercial Director, or equivalent. Prior to this you may have experience of life science and technology consulting and private equity

  • Experience deploying healthcare technology into clinical trials

  • Experience of building and optimizing operating systems and structures

  • Experience of working within European and US healthcare regulatory frameworks

  • Experience of working with compliance frameworks including GDPR, HIPAA and QMS

  • Experience of or strong appreciation for IP-related matters

  • Experience of building teams – either your own, or within other areas of the business

  • You are comfortable working across multiple geographies. You have an appreciation for different cultures and operating processes

  • You are comfortable employing specialist consultants where there may be gaps in your knowledge, but you have a growth mindset that challenges you not to hire the same areas of expertise twice

  • You have aspirations to become a COO in healthcare technology

  • Ideally you have a STEM degree and come from a life science or technology background

  • You are highly entrepreneurial and enjoy working at high pace. You feel empowered to work autonomously to identify areas to optimize in order to better achieve atai’s objectives.
