Archer is an aerospace company based in Palo Alto, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers for 60 miles at speeds of up to 150 mph while producing minimal noise.

What you’ll do:

  • Work with the Chief Engineer, Industrial Design, Airframe, and Systems Leads to converge on the physical and systems architectures for a production eVTOL aircraft
  • Drive multi-disciplinary trade studies to arrive at actionable design solutions
  • Work with our certification and systems engineering teams to establish regulatory requirements and means of compliance
  • Support design and analysis activities to verify business and regulatory requirements will be met with high confidence during conceptual and preliminary design phases
  • Lead and/or participate in system and item level reviews throughout the development process 
  • Support aircraft and systems layout

What you need:

  • 10+ years of experience with a BS, or 8+ years of experience with a MS, or 5+ years of experience with a PhD designing aircraft and/or rotorcraft 
  • BS, MS, or PhD in Aerospace Engineering or a related field
  • Background in aircraft and/or rotorcraft structural design
  • Experience modeling eVTOL and/or multicopter vehicles
  • Familiar with battery energy storage systems and electric propulsion systems
  • Familiar with 14 CFR Part 23/27 and their associated means of compliance
  • Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in groups and individually
  • Experience in a fast-paced design environment

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Understanding of fixed-wing and rotorcraft aerodynamics
  • eVTOL design experience up through flight testing of full-scale prototypes
  • Experience with MDO methods applied to aircraft sizing and design
  • Experience with gradient-based and gradient-free optimization techniques
  • Proficiency in Python and/or Matlab scripting and familiarity with software development best practices and version control
  • Familiarity with rotorcraft aeromechanics simulation software
  • Experience with aircraft operating and production cost modeling
  • Experience with wind tunnel testing
  • Experience with aeroelastic analysis
  • Experience with acoustic modeling
  • Experience with rotor dynamics simulation
